Equally important is being ethical. My preferred ethical lens from the Ethical Lens Inventory is the relationship lens. This was no surprise to me because being fair and assuring justice for all has always been a part of me. The blind spot of the relationship lens is overconfidence in process. My personal ethics influence my decision making every day from ensuring the delivery guy gets a fair tip to finding money on the street and spending(giving) it on someone else that needs it more than I do. Being a professional I find it key to have ethics in the workplace they establish a set of standards that are used to make decisions and clarify decisions when there are gray areas relating to a topic on hand. Also to prevent professional from taking

Working in the field of law enforcement and being ethically sound is important. It is important within our professional career that we are able to maintain a standard that doesn’t cross any ethical lines. Even in our academic we have to hold ourselves to an ethical standard, because we are trusted to do what is right. If we violate the academic integrity it put a mark on our ability to be trusted. Just as Dr. Steven Davis stated if someone is will to cheap to get ahead how can they be trusted
It is essential for individuals and those representing an organization to understand what is an ethical dilemma. Wells Fargo financial corporation was involved in a dramatic ethical issue due to millions of unauthorized bank account openings. As explained in The PLUS Ethical Decision-Making Model, “many organizations battle to develop a simple set of guidelines that make it easier for individual employees, regardless of position or level, to be confident that his/her decisions meet all of the competing standards for effective and ethical decision-making” (n.d). The Wells Fargo scandal is evident prove that employees lacked ethical judgment and management supervision. The seven ethical decision-making steps foster straightforward thinking that
According to Professor Donald L McCabe, an honor code or honor system relies on a “culture of academic integrity” (C). Honest students will remain honest, regardless of whether or not there is an honor code. Contrarily, dishonest students do not automatically become honest upon the institution of an honor code. The honor only serves to reinforce academic integrity; it cannot reinforce what isn’t there. Some claim that a strict honor code will stop all forms of dishonest behavior, however a massive cheating scandal at the university of Virginia, an institute of higher learning known for its strict honor code, shows that dishonest students will continue to cheat regardless of any honor code or honor system in place(D). A study done at a university reports that 40% of students violated their honor code and had not been caught(E). This further proves that honor codes and honor systems need revision as they do not create a student body focused on academic
Tiffany Mikkelson Composition 106 February 14, 2016 Honor system In the essay “Is Academic Integrity in our College Campuses Under Assault.” It asks if by having an honor system it helps keep students from cheating. I can see both sides as to how having one may or may not help. Having an honor system is a good idea as it will help to keep most students honest. A lot of students don’t want to do something that can get them suspended or expelled from school. Those students choose to follow the rules and just do the work no matter how hard it is. As much as many students want to be honest, some students struggle so much in a class they feel the only way to pass is to cheat. Sadly. there are many people who can be paid off to write a paper or
There are multiple parts that make up a prison community. One of the main components of the prison culture is the correctional officer. These are the individuals that are responsible for the security at correctional facilities such as a prison or jails, are better known as CO’s or correctional officers. Typically, the higher the security levels of the prison, the lower the ratio of inmates to correctional officers. The CO's are there to keep the prisoner's in order, but what about officers'? There are ethics and codes that officers themselves must abide by, set by the prison just like the convicts they oversee daily.
Academic Integrity is an essential component of third level education because it is the fundamental building block in which we derive our professional ethics and integrity from. It sets a pattern for life long integrity in all areas of life. Our job as students is to construct knowledge honestly and fairly. A culture of honesty earns a great deal of respect. Integrity is fundamental to everything we do in college, I don’t think we can have genuine learning without integrity. The important thing about academic integrity is that’s what learning is all about. It provides an opportunity for an academic institution to come together as a community, because it provides the legitimacy to the pursuits of all students. For example, would you like to go to a doctor who
After completing the interest profiler, I was not able to locate my profession of choice. I’ve always want to be a business owner but if I had to choose a profession from the list, I would have to choose a Parole or Probation officer for starters. To become a parole or probation officer it is a requirement to obtain a bachelor’s degree in human services. According to CFNC.gov, the average annual wage is $39,280. I would say that it pretty much matched my prior knowledge this profession because I’ve done reasearch on it prior to this assignment. Even though, I knew about the annual wages I’m still actually in shock that it is as low as it is. Mainly because of all that they have to encounter you’d think they made more.
The purpose of the Honor Code and Honor Council is to instill ownership and integrity into
For example, someone who cheats on their significant other is not doing something illegal, however, the act of cheating is unethical and wrong. This type of character may affect someone’s business life since it is conclusive that you are who you are in both your personal and business life. A business may decide not to hire someone who is cheating on their wife, since such an act reflects one’s morals. If someone treats their wife that way, there’s a great possibility that they will treat their boss with the same disrespect. Under the right set of circumstances, anyone is capable of
All students partaking in any classes in the UNC Charlotte system are held to the UNC Charlotte Code of Student Academic Integrity statement and the rules set forth by the statement. Having academic integrity in the university will promote a healthy environment for learning and respect. Without it students, staff and faculty will loose respect and integrity, which will hurt the school and the learning environment. One of the most crucial traits a scholar can develop is a high level of self-efficacy which is essential to academic success. The ability to achieve and to recognize that success can come from being industrious should be the deterring factor for a student who considers committing the act of plagiarism. What is plagiarism one might ask? Voelker, Love & Pentina (2012) define plagiarism as, “putting forward another’s work as your own” (p. 37). This very pervasive problem plagues the education system, and many researchers and psychologist seek to explain the driving force behind students’ academic dishonesty. Woith, Jenkins & Kerber (2012, states that, “The Center for Academic Integrity (CAI) defines academic integrity as ‘a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to five fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility (Center for Academic Integrity, n.d.)’ (p. 253). Whether the act of plagiarism is knowingly or inadvertently done, it is still a moral dilemma. Honz, Kiewra & Yang (2010) posit that, “most studies report that about 75 percent of students cheat” (p. 10). As a result, this action plan is tailored towards showcasing the various methodologies and resources that student nurses can utilize in order to combat the act of plagiarism before, during and after an assignment.
What is Ethical Leadership some may ask. It is leadership that shows through the actions of having respect for ethical beliefs and values, and for the dignity and rights of others. Ethics is associated with the morals and values an individual finds desirable. It is a philosophical term originating from Greek word “ethos” meaning custom or character.
