Andrew Jackson was birthed March 15, 1767, in a region between North and South Carolina. Jackson’s parents were Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson, who emigrated from the country of Ireland in 1765. While growing up, Jackson stayed with a large extended family and received a very rocky education, which put him in a lot of tough predicaments. When Jackson reached the age of 13, he went as a courier in the Revolutionary War. Jackson had a brother named Hugh who died by heatstroke in the Stono Ferry Battle in 1779, and afterwards, Jackson and his other brother Robert got captured by the British.
In Fredrick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs narrative they show how the institution of slavery dehumanizes an individual both physically and emotionally. In Jacobs narrative she talks about how women had it worse than men did in slavery. While men suffered, women had it worse due to sexual abuse. The emotional, physical, and sexual abuse was dehumanizing for anyone.

He offers a pseudo psychological account of the life of Andrew Jackson that gives the reader a new perspective on the full life of our founding fathers. The reader will enjoy the unique perspective he gives to Jacksons childhood; you hear a lot about what our founding fathers did when they were older so it is refreshing to hear about the problems he had when he was younger. The book does a great job on making Andrew Jackson sound more like a normal person and not some perfect founding father that no average person would ever be able to become. Curtis, presents the life of young Jackson and his traumatic ordeals that lead him to develop an unhealthy obsession for his deprived mentality of the term, justice. The author develops Jackson’s obsession through childhood experiences with the loss of family that is incredibly linked to violent battles. Curtis uses these traumas to emphasize Jackson’s character progression throughout the novel to better understand the complexity of Jackson’s paranoid views on the corruption of U.S. government and his selfish search for justice. His ardent desire for “justice” is nothing more than his selfish desire to be right in his reaction to the violence of war and the government itself.
The theme of the three interviews is “slavery from the perspective of former slaves” but they do not deal with the same subject. What the interviewees told to the interviewers is different depending on the quality of their memory. However, these interviews portray the Yankees in the same way: they were harmless people, they did nothing except eating food. According to Maugan Shepherd, William Colbert and “Aunt” Rhody Holsell, food was the only thing Union soldiers cared about. Paul D. Escott says in “The Art and Science of Reading WPA Slave Narratives” that too avoid the problems of WPA narratives, such as children slave narratives we just have to compare them with slave narratives from old former slaves.
In the journal article “ Andrew Jackson versus the Historians”, author Charles G. Sellers explained the various interpretations of Jackson, from the viewpoint of Whig historians and Progressive Historians. These interpretations were based on the policies of Jackson. The Whig historians viewed the former president in a negative way. They considered him arrogant, ignorant, and not fit for being president. Sellers pointed out that it was not just because of “Jackson’s personality…nor was it the general policies he pursued as president”

The way slavery was practiced in England, in the Mid-Atlantic colonies, and in the southern colonies was similar and different in many ways.
The Detriments of Slavery In Narrative, Frederick Douglass describes his personal experience as a slave and how slavery is dehumanizing. As Douglass strives for freedom from slavery, both mentally and physically, he explains each of his masters and how they change throughout their lives of being slave holders. Douglas argues that slavery is not only physically and mentally detrimental to the slave but additionally, the slave owner. Both slave and slave holders suffer physically from slavery. For a slave, physical suffering is due to lack of necessities or being treated harshly.
The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass challenges and enhances information from the textbook America a Narrative History. In Chapter 13 of the textbook, the Second Great Awakening is mentioned, and the author talks about how large camp meetings were held, which resulted in many converting to Methodism. Similarly, Douglass, as his master attended one, mentions a camp meeting, where Douglass hoped his master would become kinder or emancipate his slaves, however, instead it made his master crueler. In addition, in Chapter 15 the conflict between a true Christian and a Southern Christian is brought up. In both the narrative and the textbook, the fact that slavery is endorsed by the bible is brought up as part of the pro-slavery movement.

In the excerpt from "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave", I thought it was interesting how Douglass so easily conveyed many tones and emotions at once. I noticed quickly how he seems so distant (giving the passage a reflective feel), but at the same time, inspiring fierce emotion in the reader. It 's wonderful how he intertwines and fuses passion and formality so well. He finds a way to reflect on the events taking place without getting too emotional, which somehow makes a greater effect on the readers and reveals his strong feelings on the subject without overwhelming the writer.

Some believe he was a great president and some believe he was the worse president. But if you look at it from a moral perceptive or in the eyes of a foreigner, Jackson’s legacy was far more villainous than heroic.
