Ever since the beginning of time humans have made interpretations of how the world will appear and function in the future. Sometimes these interpretations can be correct, but can also be very incorrect at the same time. The period of time in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is similar to today's society regarding the lack of social skills, and the growing addiction to technology, although some may say that technology is different today because it is an efficient way to access a broad amount of information.

The internet has changed the way we live our daily lives. It changed the way we socialize and has impacted the way we communicate. In the New York Times article, “Addicted to Distractions” by Tony Schwartz, it discusses how the author realized that his addiction to the internet prevented him from creating personal goals that will benefit him. For example, our author found himself one evening reading the same paragraph repetitively before concluding that he just can’t simply focus on the content of the book. This horrified the author because he once found pleasure in reading books, and now instead of reading them he finds himself spending countless hours on the internet. Kristin Lewis, the author of "Your Phone Could Ruin Your Life", believes that smartphones do more harm than good. First off, one piece of evidence is that the author writes "58% of pedestrian deaths are kids under 19. Experts believe these tragedies are mainly due to digital distraction." This means that when crossing streets many people are looking at their phones and not checking the road like they should. Also, another piece of evidence is in the article the author said, "80% of teenagers sleep with their phone nearby." This means that teens don 't get enough sleep because something in your brain triggers you to want to look at your phone when it buzzzes.

People should consider the many effects of technology. The effects are why ED White should participate in "shut down your screen week". Participating would help stop the health problem before it starts or gets worse. Also, participating can keep the mind focused it the real world and on important things.

The Shallows shows many points on the Internet. What Nicholas Carr says in the book is mostly faced towards how the internet is doing terrible things to our brains. Carr explains to the reader that ever since we have started inventing new things we have become lazier. I agree with Carr’s statement. When the internet was invented we had access to almost everything because of it. This made us able to learn about the Romans by looking it up on the internet instead of walking to the library and finding a book on it. Also with the invention of the “Car”. This made it a lot easier to get from point “a” to point “b” but made us lazier and hurt the environment in a horrible way. Although the internet has helped us in some incredible ways it has equally hurt us.

"Those who are obedient and those who follow their own mind!” In that quote it is also showing you why she was pushing JIng-Mei so much. Jing-Mei’s mother (mama) wants the best for Jing-Mei she doesn't want the help. Mama is trying to make JIng-Mei an ideal or prodeji. Jing-Mei goes along with it but isn't happy with that idea of being changed and wasn't going to allow her mother to change her.

The memoir, Handbook for an Unpredictable Life by Rosie Perez, talks about how Lydia robbed a store. Lydia abuses her gun rights and she just using the pistol for fun. Lydia steal for fun and Rosie knew stealing was wrong. Rosie found out about her mother’s illness schizophrenia because Lydia always speak out her mind. Lydia is a open book. Her personality changes every minute because she somehow has a split personality order as well. Now, in chapters 16, 17, and 18, Lydia is showing some of her mother’s side. Rosie felt bad for her mother because Lydia didn’t want anyone to know that she has this illness that affects her mind and she can’t keep thinking for herself. It’s too stressful to bear. This is explained throughout Krakauer’s book, showing Christopher McCandless’ journey across North America; John Waterman’s ascent of Mount Denali, and his mental unwinding; Gene Rosellini’s attempt to survive off the land; Carl McCunn’s adventure in the wilderness, Everett Ruess’s journey at the Davis Gulch; and also by describing Krakauer’s own adventure in Alaska (Krakauer). Is technology really creating a better world for people? With all the different types of technology, it is undoubtedly a part of everyone’s life today. Not only that, but technology could be viewed as consuming the world, dispersing information and so much that not all of it can be processed. Some people argue that technology is completely beneficial to its users, allowing quick access to all sorts of resources, but it is clear Foothill High School should join in the national “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because many teenagers have never been away from their devices for very long and could easily benefit from the forced interaction with real people around, and the psychological benefits of “unplugging” are numerous and attractive.

I found this movie interesting because I agree with what the film implied on how all patient share a commonality called vulnerability. In the movie Wit, you are allowed a peek into the medical world that shows disregard for humanity. The film revolves around an English professor, Vivian Bearing, being diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, the treatment, and how her professional status is taken away for being a patient. A major theme of this movie is dependency on others by chronicling Vivian 's trial treatment and it allows the viewers a peek into the world of a patient dying from cancer. After watching the film, I noticed that there were a lot of significant moral issues, which correlates with the nursing profession. One of it is the proper way of upholding patient 's rights when it comes to medical research. As a nursing major, I am aware that it is one of my ethical responsibilities to ensure that utmost care and treatment are provided to my patient 's advocate which means that we should stand and do something when we see malpractice being done to our patients. The doctors used Vivian as a research subject, but her nurse Susie struggles to guarantee the most beneficial care and treatment is provided for her. This film depicts the significance of advocating and fighting for patients as well as their rights in order to ensure that they are receiving optimal medical treatment.
