Should guns be banned or should guns still be kept in America? This topic of banning guns has been a progressing debate yet the question still remains unanswered. Many people have probably heard of someone or knew someone that got injured or killed by a gun. These incidents happen every day from suicides to homicides. First, guns cost the lives of many people in America. Guns cost the lives of more than 30,000 people each year.
“Guns do not kill people, the mentally ill do,” said conservative commenter Anne Coulter. Is there a common link between mental disorders and massive shootings? It is very complicated to prove that mental illness caused any massive shootings, and to prove that if they had the right psychiatric attention that they would not have committed these horrific mass shootings crimes. The Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was done by a man named Adam Lanza in Newtown Connecticut in December of 2012.
Most people that commit violent gun crimes are mentally ill, for example the last school shooting that occured on february 14 2018 at Marjory stoneman douglas high school in parkland florida, the gunman Nikolas Cruz was mentally ill. He walked into the school with his guns and shot and killed 17 students and a teacher. He had issues with learning, and controlling his emotions and stuff. (source)
Guns are dangerous, but so is every weapon. Even if we outlawed every weapon in the United States, there would still be Murder. There was 89 murders in California, 82 murders in Texas, and 32 murders in New York, caused by a person using only their bare hands (FBI: UCR, 2016). We are willing to discuss banning guns for “killing people”.
She talks about all the important reasons why we need gun control and why it is an issue as well. One eye-popping statistic is that a majority of the worst acts of violence dealing with a gun are by people who have never actually violated the law in America before. People say that such violent gun acts are by criminals anyway. So putting a ban on all guns from law bidding citizens would have no real effect. However, it would be good if they showed a statistical chart on all the people who committed violent guns acts and break it down to if they were criminals before or if it was their first offense.
Painful, lengthy executions constitute violations of the 8th Amendment, which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment”(NCADP). Capital punishment can give 2nd hand trauma to the victims & the families. Studies show that the Death Penalty can cause additional harm to the families. The death penalty can even cause the family to be traumatized by two deaths if the offender and the victim are related or friends. People can actually be traumatized because of a man named Carol Pickett, a minister who witnessed almost 100 executions in Texas, attributed his severe health problems to the stress involved with executions.
On April 16th, 2007, America was aghast by one of the massive school shootings to date. Seung Hui Cho, described as “angry and disturbed”, killed 32 people and wounded 17 others. As a little boy, Cho was bullied and diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder and major depression disorder. After the shooting, Virginian governor Tim Kaine gather together numerous officials and experts to investigate and determine what Cho’s objective was. The final report contained more than 30 pages about Cho’s mental history.
Nearly 96 Americans die each day from a gun related death, 62 percent of these deaths are suicides (everytownresearch.org/gun-violence-by-the-numbers/.) Almost 7 children and teens are injured by guns every day, but most instances are due to carelessness or unintentional. Here’s where race plays a part. All lives matter in this world but before I bring race and gender into the statistics I would like to state that these statistics are in no way a game, its horrible how much crime and homicide is committed in the United States. That being said, in big cities like Chicago or D.C., gun control plays a huge effect on consumers of firearms, but in 2015 Chicago reached its record high of homicide crimes in the country.
And for anyone who could possibly oppose that we put stricter laws on getting guns is simply blind to the sad and awful reality that children cant even attend school without the fear of someone coming in that school and do something as terrible as open fire on innocent students. The frightening truth is that on average science 2013 there is approximately 1 school shooting every week that sums up to about 300 shootings and that 's
The Dinka and Nuer tribes have both been affected negatively by guns. The use of guns by these tribes has changed their beliefs, respect, and way of life. In the excerpt it says "Children, women and the elderly used to be off-limits during raids..." then later on it shows how the tribes start to kill the women and children. It also says " 'They believe, 'The ghost of the deceased will not haunt me, because I did not kill with a spear, '". Finally it also says " He found armed youths running roughshod in a society whose dysfunction paralleled that of inner cities 8,000 miles away..."
Secondly, gun massacres are usually committed with legal weapons which makes people believe those could be prevented with stricter laws. Every day 48 children and teenagers get shot, including suicide attempts and unintentional shootings. From this number, seven members of the youth wont survive every single day (1). Considering a whole year, this makes way over 2,500 children and teenager who die from gun violence.
In the United States alone, an average of 20 people per minute are physically abused (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, n.d.). This is a frightening statistic and what is even more frightening about it is the fact that it is one hundred percent preventable. Intimate Partner Violence can be defined as physical, sexual, or psychological harm caused by a current or former partner/spouse. It is important to note that Intimate Partner Violence can happen in both men and women; however, it is more prevalent in women. It is very difficult to determine the presence of Intimate Partner Violence because several of the victims choose to remain silent about their attacks.
