During my whole life I’ve been back and forth, living between Chile and USA. I’ve lived in both countries for almost the same amount of years each. I think if I hadn’t lived here when I was smaller, I would feel a big cultural shock.
Millions of people begin each day with a cup of coffee. They likely believe that they prepare the drink by brewing grounded coffee beans in water. However, that is not completely accurate; the term coffee bean is a misnomer. The grounded substance was a seed, not a legume. Perhaps in a similar way, mislabeling has happened to gluttony. In her book Glittering Vices, Rebecca DeYoung argues there is more to gluttony than simply overindulging. She wrote, “Gluttony is about taking excessive pleasure in food” (143). In this paper, I will overview DeYoung’s view of gluttony, including her understanding of what constitutes it and highlight its noticeable aspects, such as the glutton’s stomach becoming their demigod. Then, I will give my reflection on the topic. Last, I will argue that DeYoung overlooked egoism and narcissism’s relationship to envy. She argues that the envious are envious for the reason, they do not have self-love (44); however, their narcissism drives their envy for whatever it is they lack.
The reason why I chose this topic and question because from previous knowledge I knew that caffeine gives energy to your body, I decided to see how it enhances athletic performance. Caffeine has been shown and proven to enhance athletic performance. It enhances endurance for long distance runners and decreases muscle fatigue. Not only does caffeine have an effect on physical aspect it also effects mental energy. Caffeine improves alertness and also strengthens muscles. I performed tests and found that the effect of caffeine on an athlete is really helpful and believe that it will soon be a main source of physical enhancement in professional sports.
In the Sixties sexism was a widely accepted part of society but not in modern times. Commercials still stereotype women today but not nearly as much as in the Sixties. In the 1960’s Folgers Coffee commercial, the husband’s attitude towards the wife, Papa Eddie’s interaction with the woman, and the woman’s reaction to the men reveal the sexist attitudes of the time period.
This drink originated in the Middle East, heavily influenced by Arabian culture. Over the course of many years, coffee made its way to Europe through trade and helped Europe to come out of its drunken and alcohol induced haze that has lasted for centuries. This, in of itself, is a huge impact to history, despite the fact that Europe had been drinking mostly alcohol for the past few centuries and the people 's initial dislike of coffee, the drink somehow managed to take over the Western World. Those who drank coffee instead of alcohol in the morning began the day alert and stimulated, rather than relaxed and mildly intoxicated, making the quality of their work better. Coffeehouses became a social center to discuss current events, philosophy and science. While coffee faced many objections, no one was able to stop its reign and popularity growth through the western world. Not King Charles II (who believed conspirators and traitors gathered in coffeehouses). Not the people who were prejudice to Arabic people (who feared coffee due to its close association with Arabians), Or even the Great Fire of London (which burned down most coffeehouses in London in
Caffeine is a chemical found naturally in few plants all over the world. From these plants it is processed into its pure form and then put into other things such as soda, energy drinks, tea, and pills. Energy drinks and soda are some of the most widely marketed products in the world, even though they contain the highest concentration of caffeine outside of pure caffeine supplements. It is a stimulant that affects everyone in strange but semi predictable ways. Research has been done on this topic since the 1920’s and many different conclusions have been reached. In modern schools of thought, caffeine has been found to be a lightly addictive, moderate to severe stimulant that affects neurological function in various ways, though scientists disagree
The Columbian Exchange was a widespread trade of animals, plants, and diseases. This system allowed us to have access to these items in our everyday lives. I have never realized how much we all have taken many items for granted. For instance, If it wasn 't for the Columbian Exchange, I wouldn 't be able stay awake for my morning classes. I drink a cup of coffee every morning in order to get through my morning classes. Unfortunately, coffee didn 't orginate in the Americas. It originated in the Middle East. Also with the Columbian Exchange came the trade of animals. My grandparents run a farm filled with livestock ranging from cattle, pigs, chicken, and sheep. All of these animals come from different parts of the world. If It wasn 't for the

According to Bernie Sanders, “It is time to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. It is time to end the arrest of so many people and the destruction of so many lives for possessing marijuana”. This argument is important because marijuana is considered a "gateway drug," which has not been scientifically proven. Many people have tried marijuana or at least know someone who has attempted to smoke weed. A person most likely does not know as much as they think they know about what it is or the effects. Connected to this topic, conversations about smoking or legalizing marijuana is being brought up a lot everywhere. Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mix of dried, crumbled parts from the marijuana plant. People sometimes mix it in their food like brownies, cookies, or candy. These are are edibles. People also inhale it using a vaporizer. It is smoked using hand-rolled cigars, cigarettes, or papers filled with weed to make joints, bongs, and pipes. Marijuana smoke usually has a sweet-and-sour odor to it. Many people are attracted by the high feeling of smoking marijuana. It affects everyone differently. After smoking weed, someone might feel relaxed. Another person might be very energetic. A person’s behavior can change like being aroused. Marijuana is a misunderstood drug. Many assume that the use of marijuana is dangerous, but it can be the exact opposite. So why is the legalization of marijuana in the United States such a problem for many people today? Some states have
Haitian coffee export quantum has steadily declined from 35,000 tons per year a century ago to less than 20,000 tons per year in the late 1970s and 1980s. Exports increased by 13 percent in 1988 in response to the removal of the export tax. However, they have since declined due to damage from Hurricane Gilbert, rust disease, and other factors. (Weinstein and Segal 87) These data patently showed that Haiti as a well famous coffee exported country and its local people have a large demand to drink it, will very care about the quantity and quality of production. As most of the time Haitian coffee exports very stable, the impact of hurricane caused by climate change do influenced economic very much. There is one more example to show the impact of climate change (drought) to economic. Winter was just around the corner. It was my first time in the biggest coffee shop in town. I could see the cheerful and brilliant lighting of the shop as I walked across the vast parking lot. There were tables outside the shop each with a brown vintage style umbrella. This particular coffee shop is not a cafe, it’s a coffee shop literally. They sell the finest coffee from all over the world. It also has a book corner in the left hand side of the shop where we can buy books. They make very good coffee as well. This place is an ideal place for students and employees to release stress. As I made my way through the transparent glass door, a blanket of warm air hit me and the rich aroma of coffee which was delectable. The noise the customers made was immense which reminded me how popular a place this is.
