For twenty five years the church of the apostles in New York has fed the homeless every morning, never missing a single day. But the food that the church can provide grows smaller every year, Anna Quindlen states “the issue is measured in mouthfuls” and follows up with “ In Los Angeles 24 million pounds of food in 2002 became 15 million in 2006.” These quotes give the reader a logical reason to be empathetic towards the hungry by explaining the problem and giving statistical reasoning as to exactly how monumental the problem actually is
The branch that I went to on Thomas and 31st avenue has 6 staff. The number of volunteers varies between 50 and 100 volunteers a day. I think the site is making the best use of the staff and volunteers because clients do not wait too long to be

The frontline documentary: Poor Kids was very enlightening and heartrending. I recommend that anyone and everyone watch the documentary. Everyday there are numerous of families that get dumped into poverty. In addition to this, I have had the opportunity to witness that there are so many children that are facing the hardships of poverty right now. Every fourth Tuesday of the month I go with my church to the Long Beach Rescue Mission and we volunteer to serve food to the homeless.
Out of all those students, half have experienced diarrhea. Why is this happening? It all starts from the bottom, how the food is produced. Ever since 1946, schools have been providing lunches to students under the National School Lunch Act. Since then, there have been over 300 foodborne illness outbreaks across America influencing the learning of over 16,000 students.

I thought Meals on Wheels of America was just a simple organization covering the surrounding counties that provided a meal a day to senior citizens who had trouble providing a meal for themselves. However, I have learned that Meals on Wheels of America was established in 1954 and is the oldest and largest national organization representing community based senior nutrition programs and that it has 5,000 member programs, in which they provide over 1 million meals to seniors every day, which are served at senior centers as well as delivering meals directly to the homes of seniors whose mobility is limited. After reading chapter 6 and learning about outpatient and inpatient services, I have realized in my experience as a volunteer at a local
