In the words of Christopher Reeves, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. Heroes are not born, it is someone they become. It is not determined by how they look, but by what what they do, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Heroes are willing to help others by acting quickly, often times just being ordinary people rising above their situation to do extraordinary things, without the expectation of fame and glory. Heroes are always willing to help and act quickly. September 11, 2001 was the terrorist attack on the world trade center. Nearly 3000 people were killed and there would have been more casualties if it wasn’t for the heroic efforts of many people, one in particular being Welles Crowther. One of the women Welles saved, Judy Rein, says while choking back tears, “Without him I wouldn’t be here, he saved my life”. Judy keeps a picture of Welles in her house to remind her of the …show more content…
One example of this would be Mulan. Mulan dressed as a boy and went to serve in the Chinese army even though it was illegal. She put herself in danger to help her injured father, even though she knew there was serious consequences if she were to get caught. Frederick Douglas is another person who did extraordinary things, specifically after he escaped from slavery. Although he was nervous to speak to white people about his experience and he says, “ I felt myself a slave… the idea of speaking to white people weighed me down. I spoke for a few moments, when I felt the degree of freedom and said what I desired with considerable ease”. Finally Abraham Lincoln, in Dr. Gurley’s sermon on Lincoln her writes, “ his virtues, of his wise and patriotic counsels and labors…is precious... Though our beloved president in slain, our beloved country is saved”. In other words, Lincoln successfully lead our country through the Civil war and as a result died for doing
On September 11, 2001 tragedy struck in the United States. Terrorists attacked the twin towers in New York City as well as the pentagon located in Washington D.C. With a total of four aircraft hijacked, terrorists managed to fly two of these planes into the World Trade Center. Working in a normal atmosphere, New York became a city of chaos and fear after the first building was hit by the plane. Throughout the short story, “The Ashen Guy: Lower Broadway, September 11, 2001”
There are certain days in history that are memorable to people everywhere. Thinking back on significant days in his life, Thomas Beller explains the way he remembers September 11th every time he is reminded of this tragedy. When anyone brings up the 9/11 attack, it means something to Beller; this was not just another average day in his life. In Beller’s fiction work “Ashen Guy: Lower Broadway, September 11, 2001” he uses details and imagery to explain his story.
Heroes put others before themselves and will do anything to ensure that thing’s safety. Many people have either risked their lives or have loss their lives due to trying to save others. An example of this would be the man in the red bandana or Welles Crowther. Crowther was working in the twin towers as planes were crashing into them. Crowther could have ran away from the other people when the planes hit, but he chose not to spare himself, but to save others and sacrifice his own life.
No matter who someone's hero is one thing stays the same. A hero is someone that has strived to help out of their own will. Anyone could be a hero. However not everyone is a hero. Being a hero takes courage.
Heroes are not defined or created by people or events that shape who they are but they are born to make a change. Throughout history there has been several heroes born to make a change. Heroes can be traced throughout history and still continue to exist. Heroes are born with a greater intention for their futures than mindlessly working through life; they are born to be leaders. Real heroes are born to set standards for the future and to lead the present.
Lincoln was also praised for his exceptional speeches and letters as he was a very humble man. Abraham Lincoln also had so many endured challenges he had to face during the civil war. He had to carry generals who were not ready for battle , many assassination threats , and huge losses of soldiers from his union during battle. Lincoln didnt deserve to die because , Even threw all these
The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word 'hero ', is comic books, avengers, justice league, super villains etc. Physically, they are usually tall, big, and super strong. On the mental side, they are described as someone who is brave, courageous, determined and are willing to help others and even risk their lives by taking sacrifices. All in all, a hero as seen by many, is portrayed as someone who represents the best qualities of ourselves. However, for someone to be considered a hero, they don 't necessarily need to have all of these qualities as described above.
People become hero by being brave, unusual, and important. In the article "A Hero in Disguise," the author discusses Harriet Tubman. Harriet was a woman that wear's a big hat and walked down the road carrying chickens. Harriet was a African America who escaped slave.
Most heroes are determined and courageous. Frederick Douglass once said, “I remained firm...reaching new york without any interruption(SB 71).” Which meant that he was determined to spread the word to the world about slavery and no one could stop him from doing so. Also, another hero Odysseus showed determination and courage when he blinded the cyclops to get out of the cave. “We took the red hot stake and twisted it round and round like that in his eye(SB 33).”
American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.
Anyone can be a hero. For instance, Robert Bentz was being selfless when he put himself between a driver of a stolen car and Bentz’ son. “In the split second of seeing the car coming straight at [his son] Roudy, Bentz cranked his steering wheel as hard as possible. That put him between the oncoming car and his son.” Though Bentz is a normal person, he was still able to save his son from injury.
His speech demonstrated true leadership of the United States and inspired people all over the country, which was difficult to do during a solemn time of war. The use of Lincoln’s rhetorical devices and his logical fallacies brought integrity, credibility, and inspiration. His words portrayed him as authentic and genuine. As a result, he was able to inspire the American people who continued his vision of striving for equality through future social movements such as the Civil Rights

To me, a hero is someone who gives everything they have to assure the happiness of others and a hero is also someone who gives up his life or her life so someone else could live. In all honesty, a hero isn’t really what we think a “hero” is based on definitions and what the movies or even comic books have told us. Anyone can be
