James Naismith was the one who invented basketball in 1891. He invented the game when he was working at the YMCA, training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Naismith had been challenged to create a new game that could be played indoors in the cold winters of Massachusetts to provide an athletic distraction to disruptive group of students. With a two-week deadline Dr. Naismith decided to invent a game of skill, finesse, and accuracy, rather than one that relied on pure strength. He was inspired by a game he had played as a child called, “ Duck on a Rock,” in which players lob a small rock at a duck placed on top of a large rock in an attempt to knock off the duck.
He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball was born from Naismith's school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse. The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by tossing another rock at it. Naismith went on to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.” Lebron Romone James is an NBA player and I look up to him as a leader, he is one of the best players in the NBA . He currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The first shot to ever be taken on the court was a Bankshot mid-range. When I hit that shot, the net sounded so crispy, like someone had just took the first bite of an apple. After that I knew I would spend most of my time playing on this court. That whole day I stayed out playing basketball working on my shot and dribbling. When I finally decided to go in the house, it was 10 or 11 in the evening.
Until my senior year which is when I began to notice the difference when I drive to the basket, I realized that little over a month or two ago when I was at open gym. My friends and I were running a game against some people there who wanted to run (play a game), we got our five and they got theirs. This one tall white boy that was approximately 6’4 started to post my up and he would do this little basic spin that I would block most of the time and I noticed him getting a little mad so I started to trash talk a bit to him and the little flame within my to start to spark a bit, my aggression started to present itself to my and I loved the feeling. The next play he is guarding my I’m looking him straight in his eyes I start to dribble up the
If you take a player from the 1950’s and you compare them to an NBA player now, they are totally different due to the increased height, talent, and better skill. “In the 1950’s college basketball was where the fans were. The final four that year had a total cost of 10.8 billions dollars worth of the TV network.” (Smith p.4) During the 1950’s, college basketball was more important at the time due to segregation issues towards black people. After these segregation issues, basketball started to pick up the fame and become more and more popular. To this day basketball has changed due to the impact on the
Basketball hoops used to be just a peach basket, but the peach basket was a problem because after every hoop somebody had to get the ball out of the basket. According to Hoop tactics they made heavy woven wire rims in 1992, and after that came cast iron rims in 1993. Then people began to realize they needed something to block the ball from hitting the fans so they made backboards. According to Hoop Tactics Many years later in 1912 nylon nets were
I once took a risk when I played basketball. Risk can happen every time in our life not except playing the sport like basketball. The sport, basketball, was invented in December, 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. Basketball originated when Dr. Naismith was assigned to teach a physical education class at a Young Men 's Christian Association training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. When basketball was first invented, how people played the game were just throwing soccer balls into an empty basket that was elevated in the air a bit. Later on, Naismith expanded the basket, also known as the hoop, 10 feet in the air. Around 1906, Dr. Naismith replaced the peach basket, they used to make the hoops, to metals hoops with backboards.
The Boys of Dunbar written by Alejandro Danois is a compelling narrative about an inner-city Baltimore high school basketball team who became a national powerhouse from 1981-1983. This is “A story of love, hope, and basketball”. Throughout this essay, The Boys of Dunbar will be explained, reviewed and critiqued. The two Dunbar teams from 1981-1983 are regarded as some of the best high school basketball teams that were ever assembled and many of the players on these teams are thought of as some of the most talented basketball players to ever come from Baltimore. It is also a tale of how the Dunbar basketball program would open doors for more basketball athletes such as Carmelo Anthony, Rudy Gay, Will Barton and many more.
“Are you really serious about basketball?” said my Dad “Yes Dad, I’m sure” I said “Then let’s call the coach” said Dad Then we called the coach and started going to practice. I made some friends and I had people on my team that I 've played against so it was kind of awkward at first but then we all became friends and a great team. The team consisted of me, Ali, Cole, Javion, Marquise,
So, you might be wondering how he transitioned from football to basketball that didn’t really happen until high school. James was recruited by St. Vincent-St. Mary High School to play basketball in 1999. While LeBron still played football, with his height (6’8”) basketball was really his forte. As a freshman he scored an average of 18 points. He then helped his team win the Division 3 state title scoring 25 points.
Derek has two siblings, one brother Duane Washington, and one sister DeAndra Fisher. Derek first got involved with basketball, watching his brother Duane play high school basketball. Duane made it all the way to the NBA, playing very briefly for the New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Clippers before a cocaine addiction ruined
The Michigan State basketball team has had their Midnight Madness and two exhibition games. The Midnight Madness show really gave the fans a look at the whole roster and our star players. Michigan State 's star sophomore player, Miles Bridges, has been named National Player of the year and also Big Ten pre-season player of the year. With pre-season in mind right now, many of the fans were shocked by the outcome of Michigan State 's first exhibition game against Ferris State, as the final score was 80-72. In this game, Izzo was testing out many different lineups for the regular season to see how they would work.
Basketball Shot Turns Deadly In Memphis The gym is supposed to be a place where you can go to work out, let off frustration or stress in a positive manner, and perhaps relax in a sauna or hot tub. That 's what it is supposed to be...not always what it is. After an argument during a basketball game at an LA Fitness Center in Memphis, Tennessee, one young man is dead. Vicdarrius Pollard just graduated from Kirby High School. He was excited about his gym membership at this particular LA Fitness Center because it had an indoor basketball court and because it was the first thing he purchased as an adult according to his aunt, Pamela Poole.
