Is expenditure on Yoga-Day justified?
A brief introduction on Yoga and Yoga-day;
- Yoga has been a part and parcel of our Indian culture since ages. Guru Patanjali started, defined and enlightened us with the entire spectrum of yoga.
- 21 June, the longest day of the year was chosen as the international day of yoga. This year it was celebrated for the first time and to market the event, huge money was spent.
- Questions are being raised whether the expenditure is justified. In a country where so many people live below poverty line, shouldn't a better use of this money be in uplifting them, rather. But, the point everyone is missing is the positives this event will bring;
We should also introspect that we waste billions of dollars in buying medicines and keeping us fit, with

10 crores and Rs. 5.5 crores were spent by the ministry of Information and Broadcasting and a lot more from few private parties. But when you look at it after all what have we achieved on this day? You don't see borders, you don't see religions, you don't see nationalities, and you just see one group of people. Around 47 Islamic nations joined the Yoga day. When have we seen such a harmonious thing happen all across the world? Isn’t Yoga a long term effect that you have to look at as or the short term money loss? Isn’t this money petite in front of the $210 billion that the world spends on obesity curing and better we do not compare with the trillion of dollars that nations across spend for strengthening their defence forces.
- So here it is not the question of government spending Rs. 15.5+ crores, we must appreciate that in spite of our political scenario, our government took up this initiative in hope that it will benefit us all. Under the current circumstances the Indians could get away with any actions without having to suffer consequences. Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
Jennifer Macmaster who has a master degree is a 26 years old female. She is a secondary school teacher. She spends most of the time at school, so sometimes she feels tired. Thus, she starts to do exercise. Especially, she likes to do yoga because it can make her feel relax.

Health care cost has seen to increase gradually as years go by. This has been influenced by major factors such as political influence, emerging chronic diseases, new procedures that are coming up including the technologies being invented for treating illnesses, pricing of medicines and treatment is not regulated and when treating ailment their may arise repetition of tests or a patient gets over treated for a particular ailment. The cost of healthcare has increased due to chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes etc. The lifestyle people are living in this generation has led to the development of diseases that are expensive to treat or has led to there being over treatment in such for a cure of a particular ailment.
The Benefits of Yoga Yoga’s aim is to unite the mind, body and spirit. It is very therapeutic and relaxing but more than that, yoga have numerous health benefits that the body can enjoy. Yogis view the mind and body as one and if given the right tools and done at the right place, the body functions harmoniously and have the ability to heal itself.
