He is extremely strong and powerful in the book, and his strength is showcased in his fight with Grendel. Beowulf is also courageous, he was willing to take up a fight that nobody else dared to. Beowulf also possesses advanced oratory skill, he often is able to persuade people to bend to his will and aid him in his travels, as seen with the border guards early in the story.

Beowulf depicts the adventures of a remarkably brave, larger-than-life hero who demonstrates almost superhuman abilities in battling monstrous opponents. Through Beowulf’s strength, bravery, and, loyalty he exemplifies the archetype of a perfect hero. The heroes of Anglo-Saxon period were best defined as honorable warriors. Odysseus is an Epic hero because of his quick thinking skills, bravery, and confidence for himself and his men. Odysseus is an epic hero because of his bravery and confidence during every obstacle throughout his journey In Part 1 whie Odysseus is about to come across cyclops cave, he says “I brought along and victuals in a bag, for in my bones I knew some towering brute would be upon so soon- all outward power, a wild man, ignorant of civility. “ Odysseus is showing his bravery of not being petrified of what he might come across, like the cyclops. Odysseus has no intention of harming them, but he is not sure what their intention is. A warrior who had strong stature, great strength can’t be a hero, unless he was brave enough that he can use his strength to protect his people. Heroism is bravery, honor, courage, and daring. People who are believed to be a heroe usually serve as someone who defeated or made an impact on someone or something. Throughout the epic, Beowulf shows heroism by going to willingly defeat Grendel. This was Beowulf's choice to go, "there was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on eart, highborn and powerful" (196-198).
