Call Center Phenomenon Analysis

Before we can talk about the call center phenomenon in the Philippines, we must assess the surrounding market that has taken shape. The history of the Philippines’ type of market could be divided into 2 main eras. These are the colonization and post-colonization.
The first era that we are going to discuss is the colonization era. During this time, capitalism has been formally introduced to the Filipinos. Our colonizers, the Spaniards and the Americans, established a “civilized” society that resembles Western society at that time. They brought the concepts of business, labor force, and capitalism here in our shores. The definition of that said term is to isolate, remove feelings, or even responsibility (source). There are 3 stages of Alienation, as written by Karl Marx. The first one would be alienation from Nature. We treat nature as something that could benefit us, and since we could make our own food, thus comes in the notion that it is something we could control and exploit. Here comes in the isolation of humans being with nature. We treat ourselves as beings that are superior to nature due to our agricultural capacities. This alienation has caused so much damage towards our world. People don’t care anymore about nature and its deterioration. Examples of there are the acidification of our seas, changing of temperature, and stronger natural calamities. The industrial era has made production easier and cheaper. However, due to human nature, we try to find things to gain more benefit. This is where the division of labor comes in. The bourgeoisie want to make more money by making the laborers more efficient. With this, people are isolated from one another, as mentioned above on what division of labor does. The person in the assembly can’t talk to the person in the sales department. The people become so focused in their work and their own specialization that the trend would be to isolate human interaction for the more productive laborer. As mentioned in class, that sometimes firm doesn’t even let you talk to the person next to you unless it would increase profit. A latent function of this is that due to the disunity of the proletariat, they couldn’t stage pickets and revolts against the bourgeoisie for their rights as
