Techno- boom is one of the wonders of the modern times. The explosion of technology in the modern years has made human life simpler than ever before by connecting the farthest parts of the world and sowing seeds for global interaction. In this set of connections, the language that emancipated as a common mode of communication without any tough fight is English. English, once a borrowed language, has become the language of choice in education, business and commerce. In the education system, English language has begun to prod out space with the local languages. It is irrefutable that English is essential for the advancement in professional life as well as in trade. It is no longer possible to break away from the presence of English and invariably one has to acquire it. But now, the process of learning English has become simpler because of the rich resources available in the form of printed materials in English and the soft copies in the form of the text or audio-video materials in CDs and other hard drives. Umpteen numbers of ways and means to master English is available in Internet. The learner is no longer feels humiliated as the learning often takes place in virtual settings and proffers him enough scope to improvise, develop and keep informed his language from time to time. Using these resources, one can master the language even without the proper guidance of a teacher. In this digital era, reading has evolved in such a way that people no longer need physical books to gain information on certain subjects. In fact, numerous ways exist through which anybody can access information on their favorite topics in a click of a button. Additionally, the use of Internet provides a platform where individuals can share their thoughts with others on different topics and gain more knowledge from the thoughts and advice of others. Online reading often provides fresh new insights into language and how it is used on a daily basis.
There are a rising number of students living in the United States that are classified as English Language Learners or ELLs. These students are not only learning grade-level content but also learning how to communicate in English. The majority (77.2 percent) come from Spanish speaking countries in Latin America. Latino ELL students are typically enrolled in schools that do not have experience serving this special population.
Ever since I was young, I always had a fascination for English. Even in my earliest memories, I was doing English related activities. In elementary school, I participated in many English speech contests. I continued to engage in such activities in middle school, studying English in the most advanced level class and spending much of my time in the school’s English literature club. After 15 years living in Korea, I moved to the United States because my parents wanted me to learn more English.
The United States is a place of freedom. We are a mixing pot that unifies as one. Many religions, cultures, and languages make their home in the Unites States. Many foreigners see the U.S. as an opportunity to seek better lives and education, but when it comes to foreigners and native-born non-English speakers that do not yet know English, it becomes a little more difficult to go about an average day let alone make a better future. Children in school often become English Language Learners, or ELL, to assimilate to the American standards.
Introduction: The English language is generally acknowledged as a global language, in view of its numerous functions and preference over several other languages around the globe. The tradition of English teaching has been drastically changed with the remarkable entry of technology. Technology provides so many options as making teaching interesting and also making teaching more productive in terms of improvements. Technology is one of the most significant drivers of both social and linguistic change. At present the role and status of English is that it is the language of social context, political, socio cultural, business, education, industries, media, library, communication across borders, and key subject in curriculum and language of imparting education.
'We now talk about Englishes rather than English and multi-literacies rather than literacy.' Throughout the world children are taught English and Literacy, however there are multiple forms of these, and therefore we now have Englishes and multi-literacies. English has evolved into the many different ‘Englishes’ of today, such as Australian English, American English, Spanglish and so on, and within each country, there are multiple dialects of this language. This essay will explore the variants of English as well as how literacy has evolved through time into the multi-literacies of today.
Confident speak in English Langauge Judy was eight years old. She is from China and she arrived to United states. Judy is the American name and the name is choose by her mother. I always have been curious. It made me being in several troubles when I was a boy. I wanted to know everything about the world which surrounded me. I had knowledge hungry. In an attempt to calm down my hyperactivity, my mother taught me to read and I loved reading, at the beginning at least.
Equal Protection for English Language Learners Any student migrating from another country or lives in a home where English is not a first language or no English is spoken faces many problems. Even in the United States where the population of immigrants is in millions. There are many students who considered as English language learners (ELL). Sometimes, these students are treated unfairly in the school environment and are at a disadvantage due to language barriers.
Through the readings done in class, there have been realizations about emergent bilingual students that have not only shocked me but have made me feel more prepared to properly educate these students. These realizations include the importance of understanding your students’ individual cultures rather than bunching all English Language Learners into the same category; as well as understanding that there are different levels of English Language Learners and creating individual guidance for those students. A third takeaway from the readings thus far involves the educational policies which schools mandate for their ELL’s. These are some ideas that would not have even crossed my mind without these readings, but it has now become clear how vital
When the primary consideration is education, there is an inevitable need to mention foreign language education, too. As the countries’ relations has increased a lot all around the world and English has become the “lingua franca” spoken by both native and non-native speakers, teaching and learning that language has become important as well. During my studies, my goal is not only to speak fluently in English but also be able to communicate in sophisticated phrases. Nowadays, two languages are not adequate for some company. They want at least 3 to 4 languages that is spoken and written fluently.
According to Wang (2004), when language learners have desirable and real communication factors, they can develop their language skills in classroom. He further goes on to say that using computers and every kind of technological equipment gives students the sense of freedom and encouragement. With the help of technology students can be active, motivated and involved in the language learning process. Materials which have high quality and authenticity with reasonable price can be provided by technology. In this way, the popularity of distance education increases.
