You decided your family was ready for a dog and have adopted the most adorable puppy. That is, until he peed in the middle of the living room floor. Suddenly, realizing now that owning a dog is a big responsibility, and cleaning up their messes is now a top priority. The only thing left to do is potty train the puppy. This process can be extremely challenging. However, if you crate train a puppy, discipline and reward them, and simply just watch for signals, potty training will be effortless. Believe it or not, the choice of crate or den where your puppy is going to sleep is very important. Because If you are occupied or unable to keep an eye on them for extended periods, consider trying to crate train your puppy. While in the process it may feel as if you are imprisoning them, puppies who are crate trained begin to appreciate the safety and security of their crate and start to think of it as their home. Reinforcing what a good job your puppy is doing is going to make sure that your pet repeats the desired behavior to please you. They will learn that what they do is good and satisfying for you and they will seek to replicate it again. A very important aspect is to not scold your puppy for accidents, especially in the beginning of the potty training process. That will only make them frightened or be scared of you, and will actually increase the chances of the dog going potty somewhere you don 't want him to go. You are only traumatizing him and contributing to a troubled or stunted growth. Praise good behavior, but don’t penalize bad behavior and accidents.
