Explain the importance to children’s holistic development of Speech, language and communication This development is important for children’s holistic development as this will help the children to socialise and help them express what they like and need, this will get them to have more sense about the world. If the child can communicate this will help them with their confident and self-esteem levels as they can talk about how they feel.it is important for children to use their own language skills and not to listen to other all the time and this could put their development back. If the child is getting encouraged and praised by their careers as they learn then with can build up their self-esteem and confidence as if they didn’t then this could make the children have insecurities about their own abilities to do things and would have a need of people reassuring them, this could lead up to them having Lack of motivation and having a poor self-esteem about doing new things. When growing up children will look for role models this could be their carer. If their carer had poor social and communications skills then this could have an effect on the child as they would reflect form them and wouldn’t know any difference, so this would affect their development. Children that have limited opportunities to develop their communication skills could have poor behaviour and attention span. In my three activities I plan to help develop a 1 year old’s holistic development, which includes their social, physical, emotional, cognitive and linguistic development, but I will primarily be focusing on their physical development. Normative is defined as, “Establishing, relating to, or deriving from a standard or norm, especially of behaviour” (Oxford Dictionary) which means a child is tracked by when they meet milestones and if they meet them at a normal rate they have normative development. This relates to my activities as the information gathered from the observations of my activity could be used to judge whether or not the child is meeting their physical development milestones. The current framework also consists of the 7 areas of learning. Communication and language is the first area of learning. It says in the EYFS that communication and language is all about giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations. Children are learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, beginning to read and write must be supported and extended. Here, the child would be dependant on the practitioner to provide the child with the correct resources when they are at nursery and also to provide the correct help for the child (i.e. a speech and language specialist if needed) and advice for the parent.
Humans are made to connect to one another. Babies are born with the innate capacity to form attachments, but this nature can only develop with a devoted and responsive caregiver. The formation of attachment occurs in supportive and shared relationship the reciprocity of thoughts and feelings. Babies with unresponsive caregivers are deprived of the emotional and social signals of attachment. As they grow older, they have more cognitive, social, and behavioral difficulties opposed to those whose caregivers are receptive of their needs.
This is important to ensure that a child is being supported to meet their set targets and they reach their full potential. Also any strengths or weaknesses can be identified during this process. A support plan is usually completed with a child as this helps to identify their needs, the plan can then be tailored specifically for them and adapted if necessary, this is then reviewed at intervals to monitor the progress made. We currently have a placement plan at our home that we use with the young mothers. This helps to identify their support needs and what areas they feel they may need extra support with.

Physical development this can have an emotional effect on the child or children because if they do something good then they will get praised, and it will have a positive effect on them and will make them happy. Although, the child or children’s social development could also be affected because if they have got a physical disability- e.g. – wheelchair, then they will find it really hard to participate in most and certain physical activities for example- football, tennis and it will also make it harder to form friendships because if the child doesn’t take part in any new games, and which could make them really angry and frustrated because they are unable to participate in things like the other children and this could affect their self-confidence
Lastly, read. Start while they are young and as in the words of McCullough, “read, read, read!” (McCullough, p 4). Books are essential, and have a huge impact on a person. Reading, when done properly, can allow for escape from reality.
