Franklin Delano Roosevelt commonly known as FDR, was a statesman and political leader who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on born on January 30, 1882, into a wealthy family. Franklin was the only child of James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano Roosevelt . The family lived at Spring wood, their estate in Hudson River Valley in New York State. While growing up, Franklin Roosevelt was surrounded by advantages. Franklin was taught by tutors until the age 14, his mother was the dominant figure in his life even until he grew up. After graduating from Groton in 1900, Franklin entered Harvard University, During his last year at Harvard, Franklin became engaged to Eleanor Roosevelt, his fifth cousin. They married on March 17, 1905. Roosevelt studied law at Columbia University Law School and passed the exam in 1907, he didn’t receive a degree. For the next three years he studied corporate law in New York. But he found law practice was boring. He set his sights on greater accomplishments. In 1910, at age 28, Roosevelt was invited to run for New York senate. He ran as a democrat. Franklin won the New York senate and was reelected. In 1912 he supported Woodrow Wilson and was appointed as Assistant Secretary of of the Navy. In 1914, Franklin Roosevelt, decided to run for the U.S. senate for New York. In politics, Franklin Roosevelt was finding professional success. Franklin accepted the nomination for vice president at the 1920 democratic convention. While vacating in Campobello island, New Brunswick, Canada, Roosevelt was diagnosed with having polio. He bought Warm Springs in Georgia seeking a cure.
