Gun Control: A Sociological Analysis

Between 2000 and 2015, over 150,000 Americans were killed in gun related homicides (Zakaria). It has been estimated that there are over 310 million guns in the hands of United States citizens (Krouse). These statistics have rallied many gun-control opponents and proponents to action. Gun control opponents believe that the answer to this problem is to loosen gun control laws to dissuade potential shooters. Gun control proponents believe that the answer is to tighten gun control laws so that a gun is never put into a potential shooter’s hands. The best way to find an answer to this predicament is compare the United States’ current gun control legislation to that of other countries to see where and how the countries have succeeded and failed

Gun Control is an urgent and paramount intricacy in our country today. It not only concerns our individual rights and where people stand on personal freedom versus the need for social order and concern for public safety, but it also has an integral effect on the criminal justice system. Gun control influences the approach of policy-makers regarding crime and is a hot-button issue among Law Enforcement. Most everyone has passionate opinions about gun control-whether we currently have too much of it or not enough-as well as how to fix the conglomeration of issues about the ownership of guns and what we do with them. The main concerns surrounding gun control involve the sociological, ethical, and legal concepts it is necessary to resolve in order to functionally maintain gun regulations. Guns. A constitutional right we as Americans have. Something that has been a hot topic that has been debated heavily recently in the United States. With all of the media coverage on the recent gun-related tragedies, it has gotten many Americans talking about gun control and firearm legislation. Whether as a reader who is a person that is pro-gun, anti-gun, or something in between the two, all the recently coverage has made people think where they stand on the subject. Throughout the three articles examined that look into the issue of guns, both sides of the gun control argument are explained and explored. No matter what side you stand on, gun control and gun related laws are something every person should be aware of in the United States.

Gun control is a major argument in today’s society. When discussing guns, most are highly against them. Not only are they used for a defense mechanism but are also used to provide a source of food to the public. Whether being a complete ban or people being forced to get a background check in order to purchase an armed weapon. While guns are banned, people will look for anyway they can to use guns, which leads to stealing and more possible deaths or injuries. Guns are important not only for self-defense or sport but to keep our country under control.

Today in the United States of America, the gun control is the top issue. The citizens of the United States find it their right to bear arms, however guns get in the wrong hands. In order to carry a weapon, people must have a weapon license, and required an intensive background check to obtain the weapon. More often than not concealed handguns have a negative effect on society than positive.

I think it is clear that America’s lenient Gun Laws have no doubt been a huge factor on the staggering amount of gun violence for a long time. I do believe, however, in people’s rights to defend and arm themselves, it is part of their constitution, I just feel that it is necessary that the laws regarding the 2nd amendment need to be reinforced and should introduce some restrictions to ensure that only the people who are mentally capable of wielding a firearm, without causing harm to society, should be allowed to acquire one. I do also recognise that there are already a staggering number of guns in the possession of the general public, and I feel that the only way to tackle this issue is cultural change in America, changing the views of individuals on the idea of guns, but change is always

The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes. Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting. They also do not have as many negative effects as some claim. The right to own firearms is a constitutional right that is important and needs to be upheld.

Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others unable to defend themselves had their lives taken away. [1] Could this outcome have changed if the Jews were armed with guns? Could thirteen million innocent lives have been saved? Does taking away firearms help someone in a situation like this? Many pro gun-control citizens believe that banning firearms will make them safer and some even protest. For reasons of self-defense, to assist the police, and because violence will always be present, the United States’ law regarding the legality of firearms should stay in place.

Gun control has been a big factor in today’s society, now days it is often to see people getting their lives taken from them due to guns. Having researched one side of the issue, that gun violence had increased over the last year. Moorhouse and Wanner, in their article “Does Gun Control Reduce Crime Or Does Crime Increase Gun Control”, studied whether or not gun control reduced gun violence in individual states. The overarching theme throughout the individual states is that gun control doesn’t reduce gun violence and is very ineffective. The authors provide two possible reasons why these laws are ineffective; 1) these laws do not effect criminal behavior and their efforts to obtain weapons illegally, and 2) these laws focus on normal gun purchases and don 't account for private sales and guns passed down through families.

Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action. Instead of banning or limiting guns, the evidence will show that removing the current restrictions and targeting individuals instead of guns will be a more effective process.

However, when attacking the issue with the focus on child safety, the argument becomes more relatable and concerning. Moms Demand Action preaches the outlaw of guns and while that stance may seem too severe, the focus on children brings an ethical side to the argument that hits home to most Americans.
