Hero Essay: Kobe Bryant Is A Hero

In The Odyssey an epic poem by Homer, Odysseus, a hero from Ithaca, is trapped on his way home from Athens and Troy. His son, Telemachus, goes on a journey looking for his lost father. Both son and father want to reclaim their house from the suitors who wish to marry Penelope, Odysseus’ wife. Genghis Khan, Choi Yuna, my brother, An Thai, and Odysseus have traits like strength, thoughtfulness, and attractiveness. People need heroes with these traits because they need role models and someone to guide them through life.

A hero is a person who overcomes their fears to fight for what is right. A person who fights for change. Heroes are everywhere. Heroes can be anyone. Every hero is a unique person with feelings and families. An example of a hero is Minerva Mirabal, who fights in the Dominican Republic for change. She fights the dictator Trujillo and the rest of the regime with her life. In Julia Alvarez’s historical novel In the Time of the Butterflies, Minerva is characterized as both an individual and a martyr.

Hero’s are great and powerful people. A Hero is someone who is willing to risk their life to help someone even though they don’t have to. Ponyboy is an example of a hero. Johnny is also a great example of a Hero. Bob though, is the complete opposite of a Hero. Hero’s can come any size, shape or form as long as they try their hardest to do so.

In my opinion I think a hero is a person that changes lives forever. My hero is Jackie Robinson because he is the first African American baseball player, first African American to win NL MVP, and the first African American to have his number retired.

If I asked you who was an american hero, who would be the first person you think of? I would automatically think of Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson is not only an american hero but also a hero for all of sports. His courage, wanting to be the first african american to play baseball, fighting for equality, and fighting for his country are all reasons he should be considered a hero. But he did a lot more than that to be a hero like Abraham lincoln or Martin Luther King Jr.

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes dedicate their lives to contribute to the general welfare of society. Most of the time, the obstacle seems to big for them to handle, but they overcome it in the end. A hero can be anyone in the world. A neighbor, a child, a firefighter, or a politician. Heroes are determined, they never do anything for personal gain, and they always fight for good.

What do you think was Odysseus’s worst or best action of his wandering and why? I think that his worst action in in book nine line 455 he was saying how Norman went to the one-eye cyclopes cave and still has not returned. However even though Odysseus knew about Norman him and his men still went to the cave. I believe that this was one of his worst actions because he knew the cave was dangerous and yet he still acted and went into the cave with his men.

In the articles Jackie Robinson changed Baseball, theseus and minotaur, the woman who helped anne frank died at 100, they all have heros and important to the society. Also, they went through a lot and made the society better.

LeBron Raymone James is a professional NBA basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron has been an NBA champion three times; he has received four NBA most valuable player awards; two Olympic gold medals; and the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He is always one of the top best players in the NBA. However, LeBron is also friendly to his fans and supporters. So LeBron James is the greatest living athlete in the world because he was the youngest player to make numerous accomplishments, and he is the friendliest person in the social media era.

Lebron james is way better than kevin durant because he a more clutch shooter and better on offense and defense than Kevin durant. And Lebron james average way more points then Kevin durant. And he can lead his team better than Kevin durant. And every single year Lebron james make it to the NBA finals . He has been to the NBA finals 6 times. James made history when he became the first member of the Cavalier franchise to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. And Lebron james have been the NBA MVP multiple times. And he was the youngest player to score 40 points in a game. And Lebron james is one of the best players in the basketball today. He has an incredible combination of skills. Lebron james scored 27 plus points 8th seasons straight.

The Websters dictionary defines a hero as someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Heroes are ordinary people who find the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. They are the real heroes, and so are the families and friends who have stood by them. Maya Angelou stated, “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this world a better place for all people.”

Kobe Bryant was born in 1978 in Philadelphia. His parents were Joe and Pamela Bryant. Joe Bryant was a former NBA player. Kobe had two older sisters. At the age of 6 Kobe’s family moved to Italy. Then in 1991 they moved back to Philadelphia. Kobe grew up watching basketball and soccer. He was a huge fan of the LA Lakers and the AC Milan.

Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.

What is a hero? The definition of hero is; “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” Many people have different definitions of a hero, some people see them as that one person who you never see, who hides in the shadows and you would never think of them as a hero. However, he/she could be someone who is always out there looking to protect someone. Most people put heroes in categories such as; rich, famous, caring, and selfless and most of all, brave. A hero comes in many shapes, form, and sizes.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and one of the most widely viewed. The sport of basketball is known as a fun past time for any person young or old. I love to watch and play the game, basketball is a very entertaining sport and can be played by anyone. Basketball has many negative and positive things about it based on my opinion.
