Between 1830 and 1850, the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, Creek, Seminole and Cherokee peoples were forced to leave their homelands to relocate further west. The Cherokee Nation removal in 1838 (the last forced removal east of the Mississippi) was brought on by the discovery of gold near Dahlonega, Georgia, in 1829, resulting in the Georgia Gold Rush.1 During the Trail of Tears (1838-1839), the Cherokee tribes were moved to the Indian Territory, near the Ozarks. They initially settled near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This is where the tribes historically settled in 1838 to 1839, after the Indian Removal Act of 1830 passed during the presidency of Andrew Jackson.2 The removal included members of the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw
They traded fur and baskets for weapons to be used in hunting and war. For shelter, the Chinook lived in long rectangular houses made of cedar wood planks. The roofs of these structures were made out of tree bark.

The Trail of Tears is undoubtedly one of the most inhumane events in U.S history. It all started with the Indian removal act enforced by President Andrew Jackson. The U.S military were ordered to forcefully evict many innocent people and have them walk extremely long distances during excruciating weather. Many Indians dropped dead in the midst of the trail causing grief for the Indians hence, its name Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears was an abomination for the U.S due to the fact that this act was unconstitutional,caused mass genocide, and the land had originally belonged to the natives.
The Trail of Tears was named so because of its devastating effects to the Cherokee nation. They were removed for one main reason, so their land could be used by the white men. Nobody had the right to take away their land. The land had been theirs since before the Europeans came and now they were being forcibly removed from it. On top of that, soldiers forced them to travel in the winter, causing thousands of Native Americans to die.
The Trail of Tears was a massive transport of thousands of Native Americans across America. After the Indian removal act was issued in 1830 by president Andrew Jackson, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, and Seminole tribes were taken from their homelands and transported through territories in what many have called a death march. The government, on behalf of the new settlers ' cotton picking businesses, forced the travel of one hundred thousand Native Americans across the Mississippi River to a specially designated Indian territory for only the fear and close-mindedness of their people. The Native Americans were discriminated against by not only their new government, but also the people of their country and forced to undertake one of the most difficult journeys of their lives.
They fished for mostly salmon, and collected native plants and roots like the camas bulb. “Buffalo served as the most significant source of food and raw material for the tribe 's” (History of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes). They would go around collecting foods to eat during the winter months. The Bannocks may have had to work for quite a bit of they year but they still found time to play games and have very amusing traditions.
When they were younger, in the morning, both the boys and the girls would help their mother with chores. Towards the afternoon when the chores were done, they were allowed to go play with other children in the tribe. The most popular game among the Cheyenne boys was Lacrosse. For girls, it was playing dolls with other girls of the tribe. When children misbehaved, the Cheyenne had firm beliefs in how to punish them.
Some Indians relocated peacefully, while most resisted. The Cherokee Indians were a particularly difficult tribe to relocate because they demanded to stay in Georgia. Eventually, the Cherokees settled to sell the land to the federal government for $5 million dollars. The relocation of Cherokee Indians became known as the Trail of Tears, where 4,000 Indians died because of the mistreatment of the Indians while relocating. While relocating, the military that was supposed to escort the Cherokees would take their blankets and food to sell for profit (Jones, 290).
Under influence of president Andrew Jackson, the congress was urged in 1830 to pass the Indian Removal Act, with the goal of relocated many Native Americans in the East territory, the west of Mississippi river. The Trail of tears was made for the interest of the minorities. Indeed, if president Jackson wished to relocate the Native Americans, it was because he wanted to take advantage of the gold he found on their land. Then, even though the Cherokee won their case in front the supreme court, the president and congress pushed them out(Darrenkamp).
Cherokee, Cheyenne, Seminoles Option #2 During the nineteenth-century, the federal Indian policy changed and it forced the removal or relocation of many different Indian tribes. The federal government sought to expand its control of territory and resources across America. The one big problem the U.S. faced were the Indians who resisted their removal. Georgia signed the Compact of 1802 which stated that if Georgia were to give up their western claims, the U.S. would eradicate American Indian land titles in Georgia and remove them (Lecture 14).
Could you imagine the government coming to your family 's property you have had for years and taking it and making everyone walk a 1000 miles? Well thats is what happened to the Native Americans. They were drove from there property beaten and killed. Then made them walk over a 1000 miles to their new place that was awful. There was no food or water or anything while the government took there land and made fun of them.
The Choctaw Indian Tribe is very different in terms of the roles of the men and the women. Women assume the position of leader in most cases. However, they all have to work together. Men, women, and children have to come together to help the tribe to function. Men in the Choctaw tribe, had the basic jobs of any Native American tribe.

The Genocide: Trail of Tears/ The Indian removal act During the 1830s the united states congress and president Andrew Jackson created and passed the “Indian removal act”. Which allowed Jackson to forcibly remove the Indians from their native lands in the southeastern states, such as Florida and Mississippi, and send them to specific “Indian reservations” across the Mississippi river, so the whites could take over their land. From 1830-1839 the five civilized tribes (The Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, and Chickasaw) were forced, sometimes by gun point, to march about 1,000 miles to what is present day Oklahoma.
