There are some reasons why it is easily to affect children. When children are exposed too much violence act on television, their brain tends to observe and process what they saw. They would start to imitate what acts they have saw either in reality or fantasy. If they started to behave aggressively, they will feel great and try again. At last, it sticks as their attitude. Other than that, children are still young to understand and differentiate between good and bad behaviour. Their cognitive brain does not develop well to differentiate between reality and fantasy. This makes them more vulnerable to learning and applies it into their reality behaviour. If they watch too frequent would think the world is mean and dangerous place to live in. They are more likely to rebel against corporal punishment than against other disciplinary techniques. They do not always think rationally like adults, but they do have an innate sense of fairness—though their standards are not the same as adults. Oftentimes, the sense of unfairness escalates to a feeling of humiliation. When punishment humiliates children they either rebel or withdraw. While hitting may appear to make the child afraid to repeat the misbehavior, it is more likely to make the child fear the offender.
Violence is easily seen in today's culture through criminal actions in the media. Surprisingly, "on average, American youth view more than 1,000 murders, rapes, and assaults each year" (Rockefeller 2). This shocking fact demonstrates just how prevalent violence is in the young minds of Americans. As a result of these viewings, young adults are sure to have psychological effects. Studies have proven that "children who view media violence are more likely to have increased feelings of hostility, decreased emotional response to the portrayal of violence and injury that lead to violent behavior through imitation" (Tompkins 1).
It can be dangerous however if the child goes too far with their actions to prove themselves to others. This could lead to some type of disciplinary action up to jail time or even worse it could lead to their deaths if they are involved with the wrong people. On TV, the actions of some never have any serious consequences. Television Violence Television has had an enormous contribution on how the world has changed and how we perceive it. There are hundreds of channels and a vast variety of genres to choose from in just a click of a button; however what you choose can really have an effect on you. People believe that television violence has a negative effect on society because it promotes violence. No doubt, I can agree with what these people believe, that television violence does have an effect on society because people will become more vulnerable, children will become more liable and people will become more aggressive involuntarily. Vulnerability is something that we should not show, as it is a sign of weakness.
As television watching increased severely over the past half-century, it also became more violent. In 1969 the National Commission on the causes and prevention of violence indicated that ‘The preponderance of the available research evidence strongly suggests…that violence in television programs can and does have adverse effects upon audiences’ (cited in Berkowitz, 1993, p.199.) Since that time, television violence has increased largely. Research reports in 1970, published that children has seen over 11,000 murders on television by the age of 14. More recent researches and reports have demonstrated that now, the average child sees more than 100,000 violent crimes on television every year and about 200,000 crimes when they reach their teens.
It disturbed children though, make them act very aggressive and easily harmful the other people around them. Nowadays, every family always have the television in their house, and the typical American child will view more than 200.000 acts of violence, including more than 16,000 murders before age 18 (“The Impact of Media Violence…”). Television is a necessary thing that every family needs, but violent media has made television become a perfect tool for poisoned children through violence show. Before age 4, children are unable to distinguish between fact and fantasy and may view violence as an ordinary occurrence. (“The Impact of Media Violence…”).
