. Define the Information Processing System in your own words.
The information processing system is how our brain processes and captures information through the five senses from the surroundings and processes it through 3 stores that allow us to store information (learn) into the long-term memory.
2. Explain the process of how information is taken in during Stage One, in your own words? During the Sensory there is a limit of how much information can be processed here. On the stage one called Sensory-Memory, we select sensory stimuli through our senses and select some information. The process takes 4 to 8 seconds to capture and move it here. The interest on what we select and our intention to remember it is what make it possible

How does last week’s information regarding study strategies relate to the information processing system? Provide a 2-3 sentence explanation. The Cornell System, which includes writing questions in the worksheet, is a good approach, because it supports us to anticipate about what a professor should ask in a quiz or test. I also found that the SPUNKI reading strategy is an excellent tool to prepare for a test. Identifying the surprising and unique information is a great approach to move the new material to the long-term memory.
The reading, test-taking, and taking notes strategies, which we learned and practiced last week are the essential and effective tools that we as college student need to support our learning experience. We must learn effectively, but saving time to enjoy life at the same time.
6. Alisha is struggling in her History 112 class and doesn’t understand why she is not remembering more of the information. She attends each class, participates in the class activities, and takes notes using the Cornell Method, but does not fill out the Question or Summary areas of her notes. Once class is done, she hurries to meet her friends to go out to lunch then heads to work. When she returns home from work in the evenings, she makes herself dinner, streams a movie while catching up on Snap and Instagram, before heading to bed. Before her next history class, she briefly looks at her notes from the previous class while catching up with other
“This strategy involves having the reader record three things that he or she has learned or discover about the particular topic. Next, the reader writes two things he or she finds interesting about it. And finally, the reader writes one question he or she will ask about the topic. "(p.48)
This means that I can use a variety of strategies to retain and understand information. From this questionnaire, I also learned that my strongest learning categories were kinesthetics and visuals. To continue supporting my success as a student, I plan to combine kinesthetic and visual learning strategies with the resources that Walden provides. Walden’s Academic Skills Center provides a variety of resources that promote the success of Walden students (Walden University, 2023). Resources in the academic skills center such as peer mentors and success strategies can help me to strengthen my learning style as well as help me enhance my academic and professional skills overall.
Informational Processing, from lesson 3.04 talks about 3 different types of processing. They are called, Visual, Acoustic, and Semantic. With visual processing, you processing things such as pictures or visual memories whilst learning. An example of this in my own life would be when I see pictures in a textbook, I process them as key points so that if a test had that picture on it, I’d remember that picture and know what it’s about or what information it 's towards regarding the test. The second one, Acoustic processing, this is processing with sound.
The Breeze Article Op-Ed College is a period of time in a student’s life where everything they have ever known is transformed. Before college, the primary focus is memorization and learning the basics needed to “get by” in society. However, the entire purpose of postsecondary education is to learn how to be successful in society, proving the importance of history classes in college. By taking even one history class, the student will have the ability to relearn key details, while studying the reality of those events.
Early the next day, Mrs. Peterson met with Rolland’s other teachers and they also agreed that Rolland did not belong at that school. Thus, hey devised a study plan for him to follow and implemented it immediately. While his classmates received third grade material, he received the special subjects necessary to prepare him for the upcoming assessment test. Rolland kept his promise, studied hard, and read all the books his teachers gave him.
“If I’m being honest, I get, on average, four to five hours of sleep every night, just because I’m juggling all my homework on top of my extracurriculars. Second semester will only get crazier, because then tennis season starts. My schedule will literally explode.” Jasmin Yu-- we all know about her. The simple mention of her name conjures up images of the “perfect student”--a straight-A piano prodigy, devoting herself entirely to her studies, while simultaneously balancing marching band practices with Praise Band chapel performances, Honors Society Executive Board duties with 3 AP course workloads, and tennis season with her social life.
Introduction A frantic student gazes up at the clock, noting the nondescript posters covering almost every inch of the bulletin board. With five minutes to spare, the student hurriedly flips over the testing packet to the first page and begins checking over her work a second time. When time is called, the student sighs in relief, knowing that she has finished her last standardized test and is done with testing for the year. Or is she?
This is currently my first year enrolling in Richland College, but the experience is just the beginning. The earliest memory of reading was all the syllabus that each class had before school started. I chose to be in college because I’m striving for a better future, instead of working at a retail store and less pay for all the work I’ve contributed. Being an expert reader can help me out in the long run because it helps me with comprehension and critical thinking when I encounter a real world problem. Now getting in idea of what we are doing in class, I think you are doing just fine helping me prepare for what is ahead of me
That Mr. Turner is overly enthusiastic about reading and books. Today is only supposed to be a half-day, but that felt five times longer than a normal day. Do any of you have any ideas about what you are going to talk about for your presentation?” Jill’s friend Ann answers, “Not really, I mean I like books, but I don’t read for a very serious reason; I only read for fun. The only reason I took this class is because it looks marvelous for college.”
Teachers introduce strategies to help students think through the reading process. Students use these strategies to read, comprehend,
99). There are three structures involved in the information processing model; sensory register, short-term store and long-term store (Tangen & Borders 2017, p. 99). The sensory model is a way of attaining information through any of the five senses; smell, sound, taste, sight and touch (Tangen & Borders 2017, p. 101). Most information attained through the senses only lasts for up to three seconds (Tangen & Borders 2017, p. 101). However, if attention is paid to the information, it can be processed to the short-term store/ short term memory (Tangen & Borders 2017, p. 101).
My note taking has also improved with the methods i have been instructed in. If my friends or others desire it, I will assist them in bettering their study habits as well. It is better for us all in the long run. I am hoping to keep these, and other practices, in memory when taking future classes and in improving my
Mirror neurons are a group of neurons present in the F5 region of the premotor cortex of the brain in humans and monkeys. These neurons fire not only when an individual performs a motor action, but also when the individual observes someone else performing the same action. The discovery of mirror neurons was serendipitous. According to Acharya and Shukla (2012), researcher Giacomo Rizzolatti and his colleagues at the University of Parma in the 1990s were studying the individual firing patterns of F5 neurons in the premotor cortex of a macaque monkey by implanting electrodes in its brain. These neurons fire when the monkey performs a motor action.
Many students don’t learn those skills in grade school and high school, that when they reach college they aren’t ready for the demands of being a college student (“Why Do Students Fail? Faculty 's Perspective”, 2014). High school misconception that a student can pass a subject without studying (“Why Do Students Fail? Faculty 's Perspective”, 2014).
Task 2 2B Digital technology ¬– a health threat? We live in a rapidly changing, highly technological world, where the present day digital technology affects several parts of our lives. At work, people use digital technology to communicate, gather information and solve problems relevant to their place of work. A growing number of people also use digital technology at home, to keep in touch with friends and family, check bank balances, play interactive games, participate in online forums and interact with others on social media websites and mobile apps, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
