Juvenile Court Career Goals

I have always wanted to help people and to help them better their lives, but I never could figure out how I could make that passion a reality, until the day I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at age eleven. After that rough period in life, I learned how I could help other people. I could listen to them and try to help them better understand themselves. Life is much easier for a person when they have people who believe in them like a psychologist or therapist. My college plan would be to earn a bachelor, and master degree in Psychology to become a Behavior Analyst. Essentially, it is obvious St. Louis City juvenile justice has taken great strides in ensuring their clients partake in juvenile justice reform. Certainly, over the years this has been the center piece of the institution in providing a plethora of services, which compassionately meets many of the needs of its youth. However, despite the history and longevity associated with the St. Louis City’s juvenile system, including the uniqueness of the services they provide within the institution today. The need to further develop facility resources, which provides adequate programming and additional tools for its detainees and staff is continual. Clearly, the institution has undoubtedly exceeded many of its own expectations over the years, impressively

The juvenile court system is a fixture of the justice system with many moving parts. Each component and member of the court system are essential in carrying out their common goal. By helping operate a complex system built to rehabilitate juveniles, these people, and the programs they run, prevent juveniles from reoffending, benefit them, and help them towards the path of becoming a productive member of society.

I’m applying to GMU in hopes of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I want to obtain my degree not only for myself, but for my mother as well. She left her native country of Nicaragua as a political refugee at the tender age of twenty-one. Leaving her family and leaving all hopes of ever completing her degree in education behind. I admire her for coming to a foreign country, not knowing the language and having very limited opportunities, but not letting that discourage her. My mother is a great source of inspiration for me. Being raised in a one parent household in addition to being a minority in this country has always plagued me with limited resources but I’ve never allowed it to be a deterrent. My future goal is to be a Diagnostic Sonography Technician. The aspiration I have is to make my parents proud. I will be the first child in my home to graduate from high school and go to college and continue studying. Not only would I be making my parents proud, but going to college always guarantees you have a better job, with a better pay this means I would be able to help my parents out with a lot more than just a bill. When my parents are to be an old age my goal is for them not to have to worry about expenses, because I would be covering it. With the money I would be earning if I were to finish college, It would be so much easier for me to help those in need.

As a career goal in social work for the five years following graduation would be to work in an agency where I will be most needed and most productive. As a social worker, I not only want to help children I also want to make a difference in their lives, homes, and the system in general. I want to improve the CPS systems especially, because of work overload a lot of children are suffering. Eventually, I would like to open my own agency that will not only empower and/or encourage children to be there better self but will also secure them a future in life. An agency that is truly going to bring in positive and great results and would not consist of burnouts/work overload.

Specifically, I want to practice family law, and help families try to stay together, even in the worst kinds of situations. I hope to influence legislation to give children more rights in the court system because I believe that they do not have enough. Finally, I hope to come back to the Independence Youth Court and serve as a mentor for volunteers just like me who need guidance in their college and career planning. I hope to continue my work with the Independence Youth Court long after I pass the Bar

Thank you for sharing your real world work experience in your introduction post. As someone who is interested in a possible career in Juvenile Corrections, your examples are eye opening. As you noted, switching your role from State Trooper to being in a managerial position with the loss prevention departments does change how you view the juveniles and engage them. It also speaks on the difficulty in handling of juveniles in the Criminal Justice system. Each juvenile must be taken case by case which I would imagine would be taxing not just work wise but also emotionally to an extent. You also bring up a great point which is that even a robbery of a store is not a victimless crime. What are your short and long term career goals? Will you be continuing

Throughout the course of modern history, the views of adolescence have led to them being considered inferior to those older than them. Often times, young adults and children are represented as unknowing, which therefore allows for a measure of control to be had over them; moreover, the ideas of inferiority are also present in regard to race and race relations. In Nancy Lesko 's article, "Denaturalizing Adolescence: The Politics of Contemporary Representations," and in Barry C. Feld 's book Bad Kids: Race and the Transformation of the Juvenile Court, they argue that those in power, be them adults, white individuals, or both, have a measure of control over those considered inferior.

Discuss and describe the process in which juvenile cases can be transferred to adult courts.

Teen court also known as youth courts is a juvenile justice system program that permits teens to try and sentence their fellow peers for committing minor and status offenses. The main purpose of the teen court is to make young offenders accountable for their wrong doing by paying the price for their offences. However this system keeps first time offenders away from the Juvenile system and gives them a chance to change. In order for a youth to be considered to serve on a teen court, the young individual must be 8th to 12th grade with good academic standing, the teen must be nominated by teacher, parent or him or herself, an application must be filled up and signed with the parent’s approval.

Life has its twists and turns, but my overall life goal is simple, help others. I want to make an impact on others life, even if it is a small change. For instance, being able to hold a pencil is the difference between a student being able to graduate from Kindergarten and not be able to continue on to first grade. Being a Pediatric occupational therapist will help me make an impact on children at a very young age. Even small changes can have a large impacts, which is why I want to be that change for others. My goal is small but will hopefully have a large and beneficial impact on myself along with others.

Children represent the future. They are greatest resources and the hope for a much better tomorrow. In the other side, some people think that youngsters invoke concern, since some kids lack self-control, ethics and morals. Those kids usually ended up in our criminal justice system.
