The movie Kiss Me Deadly uses the oncoming threat of a nuclear war, pervasive in the Cold War, as a symbol for both fate and the danger of greed. Beginning with Cloris Leachman as Christina Bailey, each of the characters who spends time with the 'Great Whatsit ' ends up worse for the wear. Their obsession or determination to figure out the secret that Christina held and why it was worth killing for leads to their ultimate destruction. Mike Hammer played by Ralph Meeker first meets Christina and after her death sees her secret as a means of both money and power.
