REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE Addressing Modern-day Malnutrition in Children of Young Age Presented to Ms. Mhel Marquez De La Salle Lipa Final Quarterly Assessment Reading and Writing (READWRI) First Term, Academic Year 2016-2017 by Beraña, April Joy Clauor, Monica Rose S11 – 13 Filipino children are more malnourished than ever (Aquino, N. 2016). 1.8 million children suffer from severe malnourishment. Ages 0-10 years old are the most risk in suffering malnourishment. Those children that suffers from malnourishment are more prone to illnesses. The government responded and launched a feeding program to address the problem of under nutrition among public school students which are more at risk in malnutrition. (Lowe, A. 2016). Despite its good effect to children that suffers malnutrition, some netizens say that it should not be the only option to ease malnutrition in the Philippines. (“Malnutrition”, 2014). Children need macro and micronutrients in their body. Good health and proper nutrition give children greater ability to learn and do more that enhances their physical, intellectual, social, emotional and their moral development. Malnutrition in the Philippines affects children’s emotional development and the capacity to cope with stress. (Solon et al, 2015). Children are not only affected by lack of food but their lives are also places at risk by poor feeding and care practices.
