“Everything you imagine is real.” Pablo Picasso, special effects makeup is one profession that makes that statement true. There are so many creatures over the years that were brought to life by special effects makeup. Frankenstein, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, and many other horror movies were brought to life thanks to the horrifying creatures created with special effects makeup. Special effects makeup is something that has always been interesting to me. I have always loved creepy and scary things in television shows and I would love to make them some day. I am creative, artistic, I love creating things with my hands, and I am used to doing things at strange hours. All of these things are important in being a special effects makeup artist. They can work on television shows, movies, plays or run a business and just create creatures to order. When you have this kind of job you do not really have a typical workday. One day you could be working on making minor cuts and bruises and the next you could be creating a monster army. The workplace of a special effects makeup artist is very hectic and ever changing. To work in this field you have to be creative, you have to take the directors or writers vision and make it a reality. You must be very talented at sculpting, painting, applying prosthetics, and you need a eye for color. One of the most important tools a special effects makeup artist owns is his or her personality. The ability to network and maintain positive working relationships with other professionals in the field can make the difference between having a successful career or failing. (Study.com).
