As a member of the LGBT community, I see America through the eyes of someone who has had to struggle to gain acceptance from others and themselves. When you are gay or transgender not everyone is going to accept or understand you, but you have a chance to be who you are because in America you can build your own path. To me, Americans are like phoenixes; we can rise from the ashes of our pasts, and build ourselves up creating our own sense of liberty and freedom. I grew up in a traditional Christian household, so I was very sheltered as a child. When it came to anything the church thought was a sin, I was never told about it, so I didn’t know what being gay meant until I was 12 years old.

In this world the diversity and separation of race/culture is so high. It’s hard to think that we all came from one place one point in time. People came up with the idea to divide cultures and this has immediately caused many of troubles. With this diversity people start to hate where they came from and some people become proud of where they come from. Although pride for one country can be good many people have taken it to the extreme and this tends to have a negative effect on the way we treat people from other nations.
Diversity may mean different things to different people. To me, diversity is exactly that, being different and unique. Diversity makes the world a beautiful place to be, and full of interesting and different people. The beauty of human civilization lies in its diverse groups and cultures.

The organization I work for, Starbucks is highly diversified. In my opinion, Starbucks successfully employs each of the seven diversity components: “authentic leadership commitment, clear organizational communication, inclusive recruitment practices, long-term retention strategies, incorporating diversity into main work of the organization, diversity management metrics, and expansive external relationships” (CanÌas, Sondak 2014). With that being said, Starbucks could improve by incorporating diversity into main work of the organization.
