Imagine being so poor that you feel like you can’t show your friend your house because you are so embarrassed. Music changed Lewis and made him a better person. In the book If I Ever Get Out of Here by Eric Gansworth the book follows the story of a young Tuscarora Native who deals with seventh grade life. Throughout the book, Lewis is faced with many challenges like being discriminated against because he is Indian. However, Lewis is very smart so he spends school days with mostly white kids who pick on him so he has it really rough. Until he got to seventh grade, he was just the Indian kid who was alone and all he wanted was a friend. All of this changed when George a boy from Guam came to town because that’s where his dad was stationed. George and Lewis became best friends and George helped Lewis a lot because he was so nice and friendly
Albert Einstein, President Harry Truman, and Neil Armstrong all have something in common. They all played a musical instrument and were successful in their careers. Coincidence? I think not. Playing a musical instrument makes you more successful in your career.
“There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in” (Greene, 1904-1991). Music is essential to every person’s life and seems to be involved in every activity of a child’s life from the moment they wake until they go to bed. Recent studies have shown that music (listening and playing instruments) have many impacts on children, especially in early stages of development of the child’s “body, brain, and their emotion foundations that support us for the rest of our lives” (Borgese, n.d.).
In Edvard Grieg’s “Morning Mood”, a well-recognized piece of classical music, a flute is the first instrument one hears. The beautiful whistle of the flute’s first note strikes a high A, played softly, and the softness continues as the flute travels down the scale, only to play a C and make its way, legato, back up to an A (Morning Mood: Peer Gynt No.1). As the piece continues, violins, cellos, oboes, and many other instruments are softly introduced to complement the flute’s high and quiet notes. It is only when the flute crescendos in the middle of the piece that the other instruments follow along. This continues Grieg’s trend, on this track, of forming the other instrument’s parts around the flute. Occasionally, the flute will soften and be replaced by another wind or string, but the trend of surrounding the main instrument with other pieces still continues. This soothing blend of the instruments is what causes the mind to remove stress when listening. I believe that music
The first type of music therapy is listening to music. Music therapists play repetitive songs for the patients. The songs can vary from classical music (which is known to improve memory) to the patient’s favorite song. They can also play music that is associated with big events that took place in the patient’s life; this will enhance memories and it may be easier for the patient to sing or hum along and react to the music since they are already familiar with it. “A study by Johnson JK showed a significant improvement in the spatial-temporal task on the AD twin after listening to a piece of a piano sonata of Mozart in 1998” ( Johnson
Listening to music also lowers feelings of tension and anxiety which helps you to calm down which will result in you being able to concentrate better.(Cho, 2014) Music can also be used if you setting time break so for every
Music therapy is the clinical use of music to achieve individual goals and improve relationships; it is also considered a form of Psychotherapy (Music Therapy Medicine). Melodies and harmonies are used to transport patients to new and safe places. The sweet rhythms brings peace and relaxation to stressed minds. Self-worth is found between each melodic note, and anxiety and depression are long forgotten. Memories that were once lost are now found, and medication is improved by this one simple healing tool. All these things happen through the healing power of music. Music therapy needs to be used more often in health care because of the many physical and mental benefits it provides.
"Music therapy is a systematic process of intervention wherein the therapist helps the client to promote health, using musical experiences and the relationships that developed through them as dynamic forces of change (Hodges and Sebald pg 284)”. I watched a youtube video called When Meds Fail: A Case for Music Therapy: Tim Ringgold. The video started off with Tim the music therapist singing a song that he wrote for his daughter. As a Music Therapist Tim knows how important music is for an infant in the whom. “Researcher shows using music during childbirth has a significant drop of perception of pain, anxiety and time itself for mom’s (When Meds Fail).” For infants the auditory system begins and develops as they are still in their mothers. Stated in Hodges and Sebald page 289 it says how “Music has a positive effect on premature infants including lowered heart rate higher oxygen saturation shorter stays in the NICU reduce distressed behaviors and higher caloric intake and weight gain”.
Do people ever stop and think that a certain song has changed their mood completely? One minute they were mad and the next they are sad. Or that music can help people with illnesses and disabilities. How music can affect the brain, emotions, memory and so much more. Music plays a key part in today’s society. It really has an impact on just about everyone. So how does music affect everyone in its own way?
Preview: In today’s presentation about music therapy, we will look at the benefits of music
Music has always been a part of my life. In definition, it is “vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.” Ever since I was a young child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the entrancing melodies, and the lyrics that vary between heartwarming and heart-wrenching have always had an unexplainable effect on my life. Music seems to have the ability to change certain aspects of my world. Even with my moods, whether it is sad or mad, music will help me get through it. It has absolutely been an enormous part of my life and who I am. Thus, this is to say that I have musical talent. I am in a high school marching band, where I play any piano-like instrument. My viewpoint with music has come to a simple conclusion, without it, I would not know who I am or what to do with my life.
It has been scientifically proven that there is a link between the art of music and how the human brain functions. Keith Yarborough is a good example of this phenomena, as he is a gifted musician. With vocal talent and the skill to play many instruments, Yarborough feels a strong connection to all things music. Scientists could postulate that this enjoyment of music is not only an emotional response to the sounds, but a physiological response that occurs within his brain.
Music is one of the biggest influences in today’s world. It’s everywhere; It’s almost impossible to avoid. Music has been around from the beginning of time. But with all the ways to connect with the world music is easy to listen to all over the world. Musicians come from all different walks of life and have such a diversity of personalities.
When comparing patients who had listened to music before surgery to those who didn’t, it showed that the music had helped the patients up to four hours after their surgery. Keeping them calm, and reducing pain levels. Since music is showing positive outcomes, hospitals all over are starting to use this therapy. There are currently over one thousand hospitals leaning towards this therapy. With this increase, some hospitals are staring with offering music therapy to certain groups first. Generally they start with cancer patients, surgery patients, and children
Music can create peace and happiness. It also can be uplifting. Music can give you extra motivations you need to run a couple miles or reach another set of weights. Music may prepare your mental before a challenge, give beats to dance to, or just simply provide entertainments. Music is ingrained for many of us.
