College Goal Statement Healthcare has long been known for being the most rewarding, demanding, and rapidly growing fields. However, from a young age, I knew that my purpose in life lay within its realms. I would watch medical shows like Untold Stories of the E.R and play with one of those plastic doctor kits trying to emulate the television. That is when I decided I wanted to be an Emergency Room doctor. Throughout Middle school career, I got high marks in science as I found that more interesting than anything else. When I got to High School, I had the opportunity to sign up for Health Science classes to get a jump start on my goals. This was the first time I started to question not choice field, but rather the profession itself. It was the second semester of my freshman year and I was taking a class called Health Team Relations. In the course there is a unit on Career Exploration which consisted of a few guest speakers. One of these …show more content…
First, there is three years past the Bachelor level in order to obtain a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Second, one has to obtain a licence for their state. Taking this into consideration, I decided the best way for me to accomplish this is to start small. That is start by going to Community College and getting an Associate in Science. In that time, I am going to start accumulating observation hours in Physical Therapy that I would need to get into a graduate program. Following my two years in Community College, I am going to transfer to a four year University to complete my Bachelor 's degree. As of now, I do not know if that degree is going to be in Exercise Science or Biology, but my time in Community College will help me figure it out. From there, I hope to get into one of the six Physical Therapy schools in North Carolina. When it is all said and done, I will have the degree I want and can set out to different
I have known for years that I wanted to work in the realm of health science. I knew that I wanted to do something in sports medicine. When I took a deeper look into sports medicine I learned that there are many areas of sports medicine that you can get licensed in and that the sports medicine part would be a specialty to attach to it. So I took the list as started to look through it at each job that plays an affect in the sport medicine area. I narrowed in on Physical Therapy and then took the time to do some shadowing in it for my senior study.
I feel such a reward helping those in need, and I want to help people both physically and emotionally. Physical therapy is my ideal career because it fuels my passion for physical activity, but will allow me to have strong interpersonal relationships with my patients. I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2017. I have already planned my class schedule for the upcoming semesters to ensure I will graduate in a timely
Now my major goal is to finish my Bachelor’s degree as a Healthcare Technology and Management. I hope to pass this class and getting into the program for fall 2016. Nice meeting every one.
Over the last two months I have observed three different careers related to Exercise Science. I had the opportunity to observe a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and an Athletic Trainer. Going on these observations has really opened my eyes to what I want to do in the future after college and the requirements that I need to get there. With my Exercise Science degree I am aiming to be a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. An Occupational Therapist is a profession that helps people across their lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities.
To qualify for a position as an occupational therapy assistant students complete two years of study including the following courses medical terminology anatomy ,physiology rehabilitation theory gerontology (2. " How to Become an Occupational Therapy Assistant."). Some of them classes I can take my senior year of high school so it will limit me to one more year of anatomy and physiology. The assistants work a 40+ hour work week, which may involve weekends, early morning and/or early evening schedules.
The profession requires years of education and completion of several prerequisites. Currently, Physical Therapy is known as a Doctorate profession, and in order to achieve the title of Physical Therapist, one must follow the chronological steps to education. To clarify the steps, college students and airmen that are interested in going to Physical Therapy school must achieve a bachelor's (any major) from a four-year university with a minimum 3.00 GPA, complete several prerequisites classes for PT School, pass the GRE Exam, and have the minimum hours for clinical internship. To briefly explain the prerequisites, most PT schools typically vary, however, most schools require a year of General Biology, General Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, General Physics, and Math. Also, one must include the classes for the bachelor's requirement.
Working towards a kinesiology major as an undergraduate student I will obtain a B.A. in kinesiology. After completion, I will head off to graduate school with the goal of earning a doctoral degree in physical therapy. Then I will proceed and take the National Physical Therapy Examination. By doing this,
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
As an asthmatic child, I used to wake up wheezing at the dead of night. Upon hearing my emphatic coughing and gasps for breath, either my father or mother would always bring me to the same desk with the same antiquated nebulizer. While sitting quietly at that desk for 45 minutes was not an enjoyable experience, it was a subconsciously influencing one. If there is anything that I remember about the nebulizer that had save my life a countless number of times, it would be the words “Johns Hopkins University” that were etched in its outdated exterior. Growing up, the medical environment had always been prevalent in my life due to my father’s occupation as a physician.
“Physical therapists entering the occupation need a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree” (How to Become One- Physical Therapists). Earning a DPT is what causes continued education after the standard college-level courses, and although I know that pursuing a career in physical therapy will take longer, I have always enjoyed going to school knowing that I am going to gain so much knowledge. Unlike some, I actually enjoy going to school and learning, especially when it’s a topic I'm interested
Coming into my undergraduate career at the University of Michigan, I was set on what I wanted to do with my life. I was accepted directly into the School of Kinesiology as a Movement Science major, and I had my sights set on Physical Therapy school following these four years. Three full years later, this is still my plan. However, I am an entirely different person than I was when I first stepped foot on this campus.
I want to be part of such a rewarding career. I feel that the subjects I have studied have provided me with a good foundation of skills and knowledge that I will use on a daily basis as Occupational therapist. In Biology I learned about the human body on a physical level. I found learning how the body works to be fascinating and I look forward to expanding my knowledge even more with this course.
The reason why I want to be in the Health Career Pathway at Chase High School, for future careers. I have been not sure about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was wanting to go into the medical field but was not sure about it. I did not know what it was about or like what areas I wanted to be in or anything. 2016 summer I was accepted into the Teen Volunteer Program at Rutherford Regional Hospital.
I personally feel that I posses the qualities of a good PT I have patience, understanding and I am physically in shape. When it comes to patience I am test often because I work in customer service and I often have to deal with rude costumers and in order to provide good customer service I have to be patient and calm even with the toughest costumers. I know that customer service and working with a patient are different but it has taught be to be patient with those who cause complications. When it comes to physical fitness I have been a dancer for 11 years which has caused me to become fit and would be especially helpful in demonstrating exercises such as flexibility exercises. Outside of those qualities I enjoy helping those who are unable to help themselves and working in the physical therapy field would allow me to express my joy of helping others to become physically enabled.
My education and career goal is to obtain a degree in providing health care. Earning a degree in the medical field will give me various options in my career opportunities. A degree means higher earnings, and more room to grow in the field of my choice overtime. The more opportunities the better chance of going up higher in the positions of my career i have therefore being able to help more people and give them peace of mind in what they need.
