One of the most effective and crucial programs for women’s health is currently under attack by the so-called president of the United States, Donald Trump. In an attempt to convince the people that he is willing to stand up for everyone, including the unborn, but instead, Mr. Trump is oppressing women and taking away their rights as human beings. Without Planned Parenthood, 2.5 million men and women would be left without affordable, high-quality health care. One in five women have visited a Planned Parenthood in their lifetime. The fact that all of the care and help Planned Parenthood gives can all be lost due to something as petty as abortion services is almost laughable.
Planned Parenthood is more than just an abortion clinic When people think of Planned Parenthood, their mind goes straight to abortion. Americans believe that all Planned Parenthood does is perform abortions, which is a very flawed misconception. The non-profit organization does a lot more than that, they promote safe sex, prevent unplanned pregnancies, provide preventive care and screening for cervical and other cancers. I think that it’s important that we continue funding Planned Parenthood because without it women in America will be left without important resources.
To qualify and receive Medicaid, one of the criteria’s are to be poor and pregnant, which is also state funded. The funding cut from Planned Parenthood, will be used in other areas involving female medical services. Some are also wondering what
Margaret Sanger, who is she, I know the name does not seem to ring a bell to you, but if you are a woman who has faith for the rights to have access to birth control, you should get to know this rebel leader. This brave woman is one of the most prominent leaders for all women universally, the creator of birth control and the founder of Planned Parenthood. One of her most controversial quotes is “that the most merciful thing that a large family can do to one of its infants is to simply end its life” (Flaherty 26). The statement is simple, but in many ways it has received a number of different responses from the people. What then is the impact of her ideas?
Imagine the long-term savings realized by communities around the country, produced by cutting over inflated Planned Parenthood
Throughout history Planned Parenthood has been in the spotlight of the court. In 1973, the supreme court case Roe v. Wade made headlines when it “ruled unconstitutional a state law that banned abortions except to save the life of the mother” (McBride) The case was brought up by Jane Roe, who said that banning abortions was in direct violation with her 14th amendment right to privacy.
A scientific approach to fetal tissue research. The political battle of whether Planned Parenthood should receive funds from the government still rages in the political field. Last week on October 19, The state of Texas has successfully cut all state funding to Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides women's health services to low income women. This is the result from the recent undercover videos showing staff members of Planned Parenthood talking about fetal tissue and profits. These videos were secretly tapped by an anti-abortion organization called Center for Medical Progress, “a group of citizen journalists dedicated to monitoring and reporting on medical ethics and advances”(CMp).
The majority of the organization’s patients depend on Planned Parenthood for their health care. They play an important responsibility in providing examinations for patients from Title X and Medicaid. Medicaid and Title X are social health care programs for families and individual with limited resources due to their financial situation. It was stated that, “60% of Planned Parenthood’s patients depends on health care, such as Medicaid and Title X in order to pay for their primary care doctor... If they did not have Planned Parenthood available, they would not be able to educate themselves and attend gynecologist appointments, regularly” (How Federal Funding Works at Planned Parenthood).
Many people would argue that if the government were to stop funding Planned Parenthood that thousands of women would lose access to the medical care they need, but this is simply not true. There are alternative options to Planned Parenthood that provide safe primary care treatment, contraception, sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing, and cancer screenings. In the article “If Planned Parenthood goes, where do women go?” Charles C. Camosy, an associate professor of theological and social ethics at Fordham University, states, “Rather than the one-size-fits-all franchise approach of Planned Parenthood, these community health centers nicely embody the principle of subsidiarity in responding to the diverse local needs of women — whether in
Availability of health care to poor women, and the need for contraceptives to prevent pregnancies rather than need abortions. But if Planned Parenthood wants to keep its funding and continue to provide abortions then it has to separate the two services, and provide evidence federal funding isn't going towards abortions. I believe abortion should be legal, but I also believe people who don't believe in it shouldn't have to pay for
Three out of every ten women in the United States have an abortion by the time they are forty-five years old. (Abortion Information | What Are Your Options ) What happens to theses aborted fetuses? Some women’s health organizations sell tissues from aborted fetuses for profit, which is not ethical. Moms are tricked into giving consent to sell the fetus’ parts, some major companies use the fetuses in ways that are somewhat cannibalistic, and selling the fetus’ parts is illegal.
In fact it’s quite the opposite. Planned Parenthood uses a combination of government funding and the proceeds from abortions paid for by the patient to decrease the cost of their healthcare services like cancer screenings. It’s easy for those who are more fortunate to say that doctors and hospitals could offer those screenings as well; however, 75% of Planned Parenthood’s clientele are below 150% of the poverty level leaving them no other option but to use this government funded, low cost service (Klasing, 2017). Without Planned Parenthood, these men and women would lack an affordable option to receive equal healthcare
One in three Texas women do not have a regular healthcare provider after defunding Planned Parenthood (Sullivan). Planned Parenthood was established on October 16, 1916, as an organization helping to prevent breast cancer, STI’s, diseases, and also give affordable contraceptives to its patients. Their mission is to help the men and women who have no healthcare because of the rising prices, by having a low-cost effective program. From political leaders to magazines, Planned Parenthood is portrayed to only have abortion services, which is only 3% of what they do. Planned Parenthood, an organization that helps prevent diseases in men and women, is something that you should invest money and awareness in because many people do not have the money
Planned Parenthood performs many breast exams, which are needed to detect early cancer, and pap tests, which can find pre-cancerous cells. There’s no question that Planned Parenthood helps prevent and treat very serious sexually transmitted infections and diseases. Moreover, the organization tests for and treas STI’s quite inexpensively. Without Planned Parenthood, women who are uninsured or have a low income would have nowhere to go to get these necessary tests done. Yet in 2015, the republicans attempted to shut down the United States government over funding women’s
Last year Planned Parenthood affiliates around the country received $528.4 million in a combination of government funds. The funds came from the federal, state, and in some cases local governments. This money was given to Planned Parenthood for everything but abortions. People however are under the impression that all that money goes to abortions. They fail to realize that federal dollars are not used, and cannot be used to provide an abortion.
