Rhetorical Appeals in the Wounded Warrior Project Advertisements The Wounded Warrior Project recruits the aid of the American public to honor and assist injured veterans of the United States armed forces. Through financial aid, the non-profit organization provides programs for the physical and mental injuries of soldiers with little or no cost to the warriors. The organization also offers support services for the warrior’s family (www.woundedwarriorproject.org). Through advertisements, the Wounded Warrior Project hopes to gain the public’s aid to finance the organization’s programs.
The line between rational and irrational thought is often blurred for some more than others. Usually when we cross this line into irrational thought our brain will let us know that what we are doing isn’t within reason. While many believe that Christopher McCandless was crazy and his ideas were ludicrous; I believe that he saw the line between rational and irrational thought very clearly, and that all though some of his ideas may have seemed crazy to some, he carried them out in sane body and mind. Chris was an extremist, a radical youth with different ways of thinking, and often we as a society tend to identify someone as crazy when we cannot comprehend the reasoning behind why a person would do something. In chapter ten of The Outsiders, Ponyboy is as expected takes the death of Johnny and Dally extremely poorly. He cannot understand how he lost his friends so quickly and he does not know how to process all of it. Since Ponyboy is unable to accept their death he tells himself that they are not dead in order to cope with what has happened (Hinton, 2006, p. 150). Overall, too much has happened so quickly that he emotionally and mentally cannot think about the death of his friends, therefore, he perceives them as still being alive. In Cormac McCarthy’s The Road there are several examples of rhetoric used throughout the book. McCarthy uses repetition to emphasize how the two main characters remain ethically moral throughout the book even when faced with adversity. As quoted in the book “carrying the fire” “You have to carry the fire” was a phrase often repeated by the characters to remind them that they were still good. Throughout the book McCarthy uses rhetoric to persuade that even though God is not present, it is visible in the actions of the character. They often encounter others where their morality is tested like when they meet the old man or the man that steals from them, etc. Each time the son persuades his dad to do the humane thing.
A company’s success is deeply dependent on its ability to appeal to as many people as possible. Chrysler Jeep does this by placing a variety of different people and situations into one commercial therefore making it possible for Jeep to reach all sorts of audiences. In the novel the Running Man the author, Michael Bauer, captures the experiences of a marginalised character, Tom Leyton. The main characters of this novel are Joseph and Tom Leyton. The author reveals what occurred to a Vietnam war veteran, Tom Leyton after the Vietnam war, as well as how he was excluded from society because he had post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Tom was shut out from society because of his illness. The author represents this through isolation, marginalisation and experiences of torment in society.

He continues to use a informal type of writing style to make the audience more connected and not feel too overwhelmed by using too many big words. Barry uses words such as "scum" to describe all mens relationship with the kitchen, in the sense that they are worthless when it comes to doing pretty much anything in the kitchen. Though the word “scum” has a negative connotation, men are technically “scum" because they are more focused on watching the Detroit Lions, rather than watching their own children. Another thing Barry does is he uses Antithesis, he starts off with a topic that’s completley diferent than the one he is actually going to address throughout the essay.
Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild investigates the life and adventures of Chris McCandless. The author provides information about Chris’ life to illuminate his journey. Krakauer also uses rhetorical appeals to defend Chris’ rationale for his journey. Through Krakauer’s use of pathos, ethos, and logos, he persuades the audience that Chris is not foolish; however, Krakauer’s intimacy with Chris and his adventures inhibits his objectivity.
Pitts Article Rhetorical Analysis – Final Draft In life people try to comfort others in times of grieving. Leonard Pitts comforts his readers in his article, “We will go forward from this moment ” by trying to make since of the 9/11 attack. Pitts uses emotion and logic to persuade the Americans that the terrorists can do what they want to America, but America is tough enough to handle it.
In the article “Road Warrior” Dave Berry is satirically approaching everyday pet peeves of people in American focusing mainly on the concept of “Road Rage.” He suggests in a comedic format that road rage stems from assumption that quite a few motorists on the road are idiots. Including various ways motorists incite rage in others, such as staying in the left passing lane while traveling slowly. He goes on to list off several different daily rages people in America go through almost every day throughout their daily routines. While reading the article I couldn’t help but to think of the phrase “first world problems” that many people are irritated by despite living in largely better conditions than the rest of the world.

Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin was a short story about the struggles of living in a tough, rundown neighborhood and looking to drugs as a way out. Baldwin’s intent on writing this piece focuses on pain and suffering. The author stresses that not everybody is born in the best circumstances. Sonny was one of those people who grew up in a rickety town where people often did not make it out successful.
