This year has been a ride to say the least… We came in thinking that we would be taught by Dr.Rice, a woman known by the to be eccentric at times but incredibly intelligent and wise. The reality of the situation was that halfway through the year we were removed from her teaching and put in a different class altogether. This change was sudden and honestly a major inconvenience to the class as a whole. We did learn yes but it felt rushed and and spastic like the whole time we were cramming info into our brains rather than taking our time to learn and digest the material. Some stuff of the things I did retain were useful such as how to write a rhetorical analysis, or how to annotate a source. These are both strategies I can use in a college setting

I start this rhetorical analyses asking a simple question, is creative content everything? Netflix (on-demand internet streaming media service), an innovative service that allows people to watch movies, TV shows and cartoons in your TV at home or in your smartphone while you are in a bus or train for example, can quickly answer this question with a no. The article that bring these concerns and here in analysis is “Why Content Isn 't King: How Netflix became America 's biggest video service” written by Jonathan A. Knee. Addressing this issue the author brings up details on a topic that has affected directly good part of the population. My objective in this analysis is determine if the article influence and captive the attention of the
So, Coop, you seem to take an exorbitant interest in my crush, I figure I'll consult you on how to proceed with her. As you already know, her response to my avowal was disappointingly neutral; no affirmation of rejection nor acceptance. However, being the pessimist I am, I chocked it up to a subtle declination. This is where your knowledge of this ends, but I guess I'll catch you up. I don't want things to be awkward between me and my crush (henceforth referred to as Pocc), in that if I pursue a relationship and she has no interest, she may leave the group of friends we have, or I may do the same due to how uncomfortable it will be (this is, of course, a product of my always assuming the worst will happen).
In “The Biggest Loser” (October 23, 2015), Paul Krugman asserts that the Benghazi committee is a witch hunt and that ¨Trey Gowdy and company” are chumps. Mr. Krugman illustrates his displeasure with the committee and the head of it, Trey Gowdy, through belittling diction and Rhetorical question. He uses this choice in diction and rhetorical question in order to deter anyone from taking the accusations of the committee seriously by calling not only the committee “chumps” and but anyone who listens to the committee an ¨ even bigger chump” then the committee is. Krugman appeals to his more liberal audience by talking about the committee, and its tea party support, with a tone of contempt by using insulting diction like “loser” and “chump”.
Good evening, David, James, and Abdullah and the rest of you here, how are you? I am here tonight to announce my candidacy for the presidency and I would start off by expressing my gratitude for your support because let's face it, I wouldn’t be here without you and to be honest, I wasn't even going to run for the presidency but I live by a certain creed, one that runs in my blood and this being that you should never accept the world as it appears to be, always dare to see it for what it could be. But is natural for us to accept the illusions of hope. We opt to shut our eyes from the painful truth.
Since entering office, President Donald Trump has taken a hostile stance towards Iran, and now threatens to end the era of rapprochement that prevailed during the Obama Administration. This would be a significant mistake that would bode ill for both the United States and Iran. While detractors of President Obama’s policy towards Iran argue that it strengthens the oppressive regime of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the opposite is actually true. Friendly relations between the United States and Iran undermine the fear mongering rhetoric of Khamenei and his hardliner allies and strengthen the arguments of the reformist coalition in Iran. The success of this more moderate faction of Iranians serves United States’ interests in that it eliminates an
The essay I chose is “The Top Reason to Adopt a Pet” by the Humane Society. The reason I chose this particular essay is adoption is very near and dear to my heart and I think everyone should adopt pets. The author organizes the essay using eight different points of why you should adopt a pet. Also the author doesn’t use high style to get her point across.
Julier, Livingston, and Goldblatt argue that service-learning has the potential to engage students with their community while developing rhetorical efficacy and critical thinking skills. This pedagogy embraces Dewey’s hands-on approach while connecting with Freire and bell books’ student-centered approach towards writing. Macrorie and Elbow connect the power of truth telling (own personal feelings) to “a sense of honesty and truth in the world they know,” which promotes “the desire to connect personal commitments to social and political realities (56). Julier defines community-pedagogy as “experimental learning grounded in the understanding of writing as a situated social act” and in this pedagogy “students work in relationship with a community
Words and their meaning are vital in preaching. “The essence of effective preaching is the ability to simplify without becoming simplistic. This requires understanding of a deep and profound level” (Black 22). It is important to study biblical languages as a student of the bible because biblical language is sacred and being able to understand, discloses the interpretation of a given text and assists in properly making a judgement in reference to the text. It is vital that when reading a particular text, one is able to understand what they are reading.
While creating my rhetorical analysis paper I used all of my typical writing processes. I began this assignment by selecting a commercial that I thought would be the most appealing in the superbowl. After selecting my commercial I did some research at the library using EBSCOhost. I then created an outline on what my paper would be about and pieced all of its parts together. In the future I will try to recieve help earlier on because at first I struggled to understand what the purpose of the paper was.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
My Rhetorical Analysis Language is a part one’s identity and culture, which allows one to communicate with those of the same group, although when spoken to someone of another group, it can cause a language barrier or miscommunication in many different ways. In Gloria Anzaldua’s article, “How to Tame a Wild Tongue”, which was taken from her book Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, she is trying to inform her readers that her language is what defines her. She began to mention how she was being criticized by both English and Spanish Speakers, although they both make up who she is as a person. Then, she gave convincing personal experiences about how it was to be a Chicana and their different types of languages. Moreover, despite the fact that her language was considered illegitimate, Anzaldua made it clear that she cannot get rid of it until the day she dies, or as she states (on page 26) “Wild tongues can’t be, they can only be cut out.”
Rhetoric is an important analytical tool in comprehending the message of a text while conducting research. Recent research of learning styles has turned out a wide range of facts, figures, and statistics. By studying rhetoric, a researcher can better identify unbiased sources. Over the past several decades, awareness of the three learning styles has grown significantly. As a result, many educators have endeavored to spread understanding of the importance of learning styles in the classroom.
In this portfolio, I have included my collection of assignments to showcase my writing abilities and how my writing skills have grown over the course of this semester. My best assignment is the Discipline Investigation and my second best is the Rhetorical Analysis. Although the RA was my second best assignment, I was able to learn valuable skills by deconstructing an article and identifying rhetorical appeals and strategies to find the author’s main purpose.
The lesson I chose to analyze was the first lesson I taught this semester. I taught a lesson on the Battles of Lexington and Concord on October 14, 2015. It was a lesson on learning how to analyze primary sources and using a graphic organizer to help understand the material. The students read two primary source documents, one was a diary entry from a British general, and the other was a statement 34 minutemen swore to before the Justices of the Peace. They had a graphic organizer for each and used that to guide them through the reading.
