Raven Santillana
I. Background of the Study
According to Richard J. Bernstein, importumus or bullying is the leading cause of anguish in young millennials. There has been an explosion of research concerning bullying and it links to electronic bullying or the so-called "cyberbullying" that drastically became a significant problem in recent times. Various cases of suicide by teenagers who were bullied frequently by their peers has been reported to the national headlines. A Renewed Understanding
A. Existential Depression
To begin with, the first remedy is to fully understand the phenomenon of depression. There are many reason behind the different types of depression that someone is dealing with. Depression arises when an individual confronts issues of life, death, freedom and most especially, finding the real meaning of their life. “The strongest person is not those who show strength in front of us but those who win battle we know nothing about.” Being embarrassed in front of a huge crowd can trigger someone to accept that they're a failure and change the way they respond to unexpected problems like being the victim of harassment in social media. It is truly amazing how an individual reacts on a positive way on the uncertain situation that ruin their dignity because of a cybercrime. Many people who became victims of cyberbullying chose to live a life with the presence of our beloved God to forget the wounds inside their body brought by verbal abuse. Those scars will remain forever and it’s a sign how they managed to continue finding reasons to live a life with a heart that has a willingness to
Although it seems more people are depressed in our time we also have made serious progress in understanding depression individually and as a whole. People who suffer from depression often express feelings of emptiness, sadness, worthlessness and report suicidal thoughts. Feelings of being overwhelmed are also symptoms. Jane’s sister in law Jennie said “the paper stained everything is touched” (653). Depression is very overwhelming as if you are stained with depression just as the crumbling wallpaper stains everything it touches.
Depression Depression is the feeling of severe despondency and dejection or a mental condition. Being depressed is a normal reaction to a lost life, struggle, or injured self esteem. Depression also has many symptoms in which sometimes can cause a human their life. It's okay to feel sad and lonely up to the point when the feelings become overwhelming or when they involve physical symptoms that are long-term. These feelings can lead someone from not keeping a normal and active life.
Depression is not merely feeling sad, or moody, but it is a serious mental disorder that affects a lot of people and requires treatment. It is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States that is caused by a combination of environmental, genetic, biological, and psychological factors. Moreover, depression is a debilitating disorder that affects a person’s daily life, including work, school, sleep, and diet that is usually treated with psychotherapy, medications, or both. Depression is of special interest to me because I am one of the people affected by this disease. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety about two years ago, but it took me a long time to seek help before I did.
According to the article, Rituals Sault, by Elizabeth Svoboda, the author argues that cyberbullies use the social media platform to target, terrorize, and harm others. To add, she provides the reader with information on why the cyberbullies attack others and how to stop them. In the article, Irituals Sauls, Elizabeth Svoboda’s essential focus is that cyberbullying has become a significant issue within the teenage community. Svoboda explains what cyberbullying is, why and how it is an issue, situations in which cyber bullying led to other issues, how cyber bullying created a new social pattern, methods on how to fix and prevent the issue from becoming more than what it already is.
be used to design intervention programs to enhance resilience among adolescents to help them manage bullying behaviors and to prevent them from experiencing victimization (Narayanan, Betts, 2014). Suicide Ideation The article “Suicide Ideation and Bullying among US Adolescents” examines the relationship between race/ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation and the risks of being bullied and vulnerability to suicide ideation. It is known that bullying and suicide ideation are positively correlated.
As working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a long term care rehabilitation facility, I encounter many elderly patients who are admitted for fall related injuries. The majority of patients are recovering from total knee and hip replacements as a result from falling at home or elsewhere. Fuller states, “Falls are the leading cause of injury related visits to emergency departments in the United States and the primary etiology of accidental deaths in persons over the age of 65 years…More than 90 percent of hip fractures occur as a result of falls, with most of these fractures occurring in persons of over 70 years of age” (Fuller, 2000, para.1). There are many factors that can contribute to the reason why individuals, particularly the elderly,
Depression is a real illness and help is available. With proper diagnosis and treatment, the vast majority of people with depression will overcome it. This is how clinical depression starts. Next, it attacks the teen’s social life, and forces onto them a feeling of hopelessness. This may lead to darker thoughts, often of suicide, or hurting him or herself. Depression finds a way to manifest itself into teens in various regards, as Bjornlund explains, “Most experts believe that depression is caused by a combination genetic, biochemical, environmental, and psychological factors.” (Bjornlund 29).
This study proved that given the amount of time that adolescents are on computers unsupervised whether it be at home or in public libraries those who cyberbully are most often the ones that were prior victims to cyberbullying themselves. This study would benefit in research for “affects cyberbullying has on adolescents because it gives reasons to why cyberbullying bully in the first place. Although with was full of useful information it would have been more beneficial to monitor social media sites that the kids were using verses how long the kids were on the internet. In doing so, it would have supported their theory of cyberbullies being vicitam of bullying as

During the years of university, students are overloaded with assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes and exams. These works and exams can create a lot of stress and pressures for university students who are expected to perform excellently in classes. Suicide is the tragic result students choose after facing these incidents. According to Emory Cares 4 U, “Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people aged 25 to 34 and the third-leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24” (Emory University, 2016). The causes of suicide in university students are academic and social pressure, inadequate coping skills with university works and feeling of failure or decreased performance.
Fast innovations, such as the Internet, are constantly changing how people interact. Although this development has been approved human beings to make great progress in many areas, they have also allowed the form of violation to become more widespread. This is evident when looking at how traditional bullying has grown became today's issue known as cyberbullying. Although bullying and cyberbullying are often similar in shape and their technique also has a lot of difference. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying allows offenders to close his identity behind the computer.
Over the years the issue of suicide has been slowly increasing. It is now the third leading cause of death among young people. The effects of suicide are tragic and felt long after the individual has taken their own life. Some people who consider suicide, however, never make a “serious” attempt at it. For every attempted suicide, there is said to be more than one person whose thought of suicide has never translated into an actual attempt.
Suicide and Self-harm is one of the main leading causes in youth deaths in today 's society. The thought of ending his or her life is one of the thoughts developing in teenagers’ minds around the globe. There are many reasons to why a person will put their life at risk, such as stress, depression, loss of a loved one, or being bullied. Constant use of drugs or alcohol is also another leading cause to a person to have suicidal thoughts/actions. Suicide is not the way to go, there are plenty of other options to overcome suicidal thoughts or actions.
Cyber Bullying has become an increasing problem in our society that threatens physical and emotional harm to ever greater numbers of young people.
