I am Queen Isabel; I am from Spain. I am involved because Pizarro came to the king and me about his expeditions and what he found. I got involved after he came to us because we wanted more gold and more land. I knew Pizarro because he came to us with facts about his voyages and what he found and where he has explored, and we had decided to discharge him out for us.
Merriam Webster dictionary defines a “hero” as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities. Benny Bernstein considers a “hero” to be a powerful figure who is respected and makes decisions not only for his benefit but also for others. According to all three definitions, Sir Ernest Shackleton, was most definitely a hero.
Cabrillo was “a Portuguese navigator sailing under the flag of Spain” (Orsi, and Gutiérrez 83). Cabrillo landed in modern day San Diego, and “after six days' rest” he continued his expedition and discovered Catalina Island, sites of San Pedro, Santa Monica and Santa Barbara Channel Islands (Orsi, and Gutiérrez 85). California was of little interest to the explorers. During Cabrillo’s expedition, he found no wealth in California. He ran into some small Indian tribes, but these tribes were not very advanced with technology and they had nothing that interested the explorers. Cabrillo primarily traveled along the coastal regions of California and he “ordered his men

In an era when spices were just as sought after as precious silks, several countries participated in a race to find trade routes to Asia. Christopher Columbus imagined a path across the Atlantic, one that led to a dead end: the Americas. Suddenly, the goal of the race changed. Countries began searching for a strait that connected the Atlantic and the Pacific, opening a route to the Spice Islands. Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese cartographer and sailor, looked to Spain for support on an expedition to the Spice Islands. During the course of the expedition, Magellan faced much opposition and made many decisions that may be deemed questionable today, decisions that led to his eventual demise in battle. Many of his men were against saving their captain, raising a question: was Magellan valuable enough to save? Though Ferdinand Magellan achieved his goals through dubious means, his crew would have found it auspicious had they saved him, due to his extraordinary navigation skills and strategy

President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery to have the Lewis and Clark expedition find a waterway that could connect the United States for transportation because he had aspirations to expand to the Pacific and Northwest making the expedition important to his agenda for the United States. (The Corp of Discovery, 2016). Another reason for the important expedition was to create a relationship with the American Indians, and the American fur trade, while learning the North American topography and geography of the land which was also important to the exploration (Corps of Discover, 2016). Thomas Jefferson was important to the Lewis and Clark expedition because he organized the journey, sought funding and made Lewis and Clark head
In the year 1519, Spain set sail to be the first ones to circumnavigate the globe. Under the leadership of Ferdinand de Magellan, they were able to accomplish this monumental task by the year 1522, even though Magellan died before they journey was complete. In the article titled “Ferdinand Magellan 's Voyage Round the World, 1519-1522”, we are able to recall the accounts transcribed from the paper-book of a Genoese pilot who wrote detailed accounts about the events that transpired throughout the journey. Around 55 years after Spain’s voyage, the English set out to circumnavigate the globe under the leadership of Sir Francis Drake in the year of 1577. An article titled “Sir Francis Drake 's Famous Voyage Round The World, 1580” was written by Francis Pretty, who was one of Drake 's Gentlemen at arms. This article is a description of Sir Francis Drake’s voyage, detailing the specific events that transpired throughout the voyage. Throughout this paper I will be comparing and contrasting these two voyages.
Although he never really accomplished what he what trying to do, Henry Hudson was still a very driven and persistent explorer. He was a leader to many other explorers, and he also helped inspire interest of America in Europe. In Hudson’s lifetime, he set out on four voyages. For three of these journeys he was partnered with England, and for the other, with the Netherlands. Henry Hudson is a great example of an explorer who kept trying even with adversity.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804—1806 is arguably one of the most important moments in the creation of the superpower known as the United States of America. Lewis and Clark’s expeditions of the Louisiana Territory and western territories are highly well-known and are considered to be the reason for the growth in American populace in all areas west of the Mississippi River. If it weren’t for President Thomas Jefferson’s decision to buy the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon Bonaparte and to support the expeditions of the land, it is possible that migration in the western regions of the North American continent would be fairly different than it had already transpired. The Lewis and Clark Expeditions mainly saw the rise of American dominance
Sophomore year, AP U.S. History. My class was writing a Document Based Question (DBQ) over Christopher Columbus and the Age of Exploration. (A document based question is an essay where you use factual evidence given in the form of documents to write an essay). I knew nothing! My mind was blanker than the vacuum of space itself. So, I told a story, but every single shred of lead that came off of my pencil was garbage. It was F worthy. I thought to myself “It’s Christopher Columbus, How do you not know anything about his explorations!” I drew from common stories of mutiny on the ship or reasons for why he decided to take his trip, but none of which I had ever formally learned. I stood up and
The word hero may bring to mind images of spiderman or batman, but it doesn’t take a talented illustrator to create a hero. A heroic action is a sacrifice made in order to reach a higher level of society. In this sense, the age of exploration that began in the fifteen hundreds is classified as a heroic event. The explorers who paved the way to modern civilization opened opportunities for technology, increased diversity, and a stronger economy. The effect their voyages have had on the world today outweigh the mistakes they made along the way.
