It was a beautiful day in the Kingdom of Hyrule. The city was lively, people were running errands, some women had gathered at the fountain to exchange the newest gossip, and far away from them, in the castle gardens, Princess Zelda of Hyrule sighed deeply. This day, as always, was busy for her. Meetings with nobles from countries far away, lessons in history, science, languages, geography, mathmatics, curtsy, smile, repeat. There was no doubt that he could lift her on his shoulder withough any problem. Yes, he was handsome. Very much so, and the thought made Zelda blush. Don’t, she reprimanded herself. He has been your best friend for years now. Your father would never allow such a connections. Just think about what the people would say. There are so many reasons why this feeling is

Another day was so much like the one before, and the many before that. He walked the house and grounds, slowly, letting time pass as it must. Alone, present but not present, for can one truly be there if no one knows of it? Like the saying he’d heard more than once over the unmeasured time of his existence: If a tree falls in the forest but no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? He ambled through the back yard, pausing under the tree from which he’d been hanged, cursing his tormentors, vowing to haunt them for all time.

When her daughter was three years old, she took her to the dentist for her first exam. Orenstein was fed up due to the fact that everyone she encountered spoke to her daughter as a princess. In the New York Times article “Cinderella and Princess Culture,” Peggy Orenstein investigates princess culture in today’s society. Orenstein is a successful writer for the New York Times and has published a best-selling memoir. In her investigation into the growing phenomenon of princess culture, Orenstein discovered that large companies, such as Disney, turn a substantial profit by selling costumes, dolls, and various princess themed must-haves. She argues that the princess hysteria sweeping the nation is not teaching kids life lessons, but rather further stereotyping little girls. Orenstein is a feminist herself as well as a mother.
