The use of technology in our everyday life has it is pros and cons; it depends on how we use, either towards good or bad. According to Cambridge Dictionary, the meaning of technology is activities or studies that use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes in industry, agriculture, medicine, business and others. In the context of academic, it is relates to the acquisition, storage, processing and dissemination of information using computer technology and telecommunication. Technology not only in terms of communication, it has many branches and its use for certain purposes. Therefore, this application is not for adults only. At the end of 20th century, adolescents and children are also using technology. I am one of the users. Actually, …show more content…
Although the function of technology such as the social media are connecting with people who is far away from us, the ICT has creates a barrier between other people that is not there when speaking face to face. Besides, even spending time with our family and friends also reduces. What we care is, all about the social media, the trend and even the status updates from the Facebook or Twitter, nowadays people more obsess with this stuff rather talking face to face with other relatives. It is the same with the kids, they know on how to use iPad, play with it instead of making conversation with their parents. It is different with our childhood, which is getting our hands dirty, climbing the trees, play with mud and so on. This can stunt their growth if they guided with the …show more content…
In spite of admitting to be addicted with technology, we enjoy a good workout at the gym. Unfortunately, the fitness in Malaysia is too expensive compare to other country. This can be proved with Christi Holleman, a mother of 4 children, said that at the hometown, Netherlands, gym membership is very cheap that cost RM50 or RM100 a month, compare to Malaysia, she paid more than RM200, shared with Malaysia Digest. In Malaysia, going to the gym is a luxury, while in Netherlands is cheap because the awareness of workout is a basic thing to do and everyone knows the importance of stay healthy and fit. In fact, charging unsatisfactory prices for the services in the gym is not right. Moreover, the companies need to cooperate because here in Malaysia when it's hot outside, people need to work out
The increase in technology is decreasing human interactions even though communication is essential for everyday
Becoming Too Consumed in Technology Decreases Social Interaction The world is constantly changing, and new technology is being added everywhere. While some people might think all of the new technology is helping society, it is actually becoming extremely detrimental to every individual and the future of social interactions. Ever since technology was first invented, people have been capable of interacting with other people online instead of in-person.
Individuals have been so used to texting and sending pictures to others that they are starting to take this into the way that they live. It almost seems as if people are no longer capable of speaking to one another and holding actual conversations. A scholarly article states, “I can't tell you how many times I’ve wondered what someone meant by their words- whether on social media, in a text or over email. Unless you see the person’s face, hear their voice and understand the environment, you have no idea the context surrounding the written words”(citation). Technology blurs things for people on the outside looking in.
Living in the technology age our constant need for technology and the internet has changed everything about a person’s daily life. Technology has replaced the ability for deep, meaningful thought and even the need for face-to-face human interaction. Today people don’t have to put in a lot of work in order to find information they are looking for. They can find it easily at the touch of their fingers on the internet. They can even have relationships on the internet.
Everyone has a cell phone nowadays. My little brother, who’s 9, knows how to use a phone more than my parents do and my sister spends a lot of time on Facebook. Since we have social media in our pockets, we are constantly connected. We are becoming dependent on it. Our dependence is making it harder to create things.
Technology definitely is affecting how humans communicate and interact, but that does necessarily have to be a negative thing. For instance, the popular social media application Skype, has kept over 74 million people from around the globe connected with one another. Despite humans spending much more time with their devices, like in “The Pedestrian”, many are not using this time to mindlessly stare at the television. Skype is just one example that connects people who may be a long distance apart, but will still spend an average of 100 minutes a month (“Skype Company Statistics”) still keeping in touch with one another. While some do use their their screens to block out the people around them, a majority use their smart phones and computers to keep connected with their
Too much screen use induces less communication between people and more time spent using technology. Technology used in our society in the same way. Sometimes people use television to forget about a hard time at work, others using phones in public, so they don’t have to interact with other people. “Little by little, technology has become an integral part of the way that people communicate with one another and has increasingly taken the place of face-to-face communication. Due to the rapid expansion of technology, many individuals fear that people may be too immersed in this digital world and not present enough in the real world,”.
Before the invention of the computer and the internet, face to face communication was a normal everyday occurrence and loneliness and isolation was a problem that rarely was experienced or discussed. People moved about their day looking up speaking to each other as they passed by at the local store. Currently, technology is an essential part of many people’s lives, allowing them to use their devices and communicate with others in diverse ways and places. Technology has helped define society and established how one interacts with others daily by the way they communicate, learn, and think. There are both positive and negative effects of technology and the social individual.
Technology on Children’s Social Development Technology The technology in the millennial generation is quite improving, increasing, developing and addicting. Technology pertains to something situated at home and academic environment (Rowan, n.d.). Therefore, it can be referred to as computers, televisions, cellphones and other electronic gadgets. Children now a day are more exposed to technology since they like to explore new things.
Not only that, technology has shaped social interaction as a whole. Being able to talk to anyone on the Earth is an important milestone and “One of the areas where computers have had the most impact on our lives is how we relate to and communicate with other people” (Stewart). In a world filled with Skype, social media, and email, no longer do people have to leave their house in order to communicate. In fact, according to a study led by John Cacioppo of the University of Chicago 's Department of Psychology, roughly one-third of romantic relations start by meeting online. This goes to show how huge of an impact technology has had on communication.
Since social media came around , there’s have been a decrease in real-life conversations , More people are building a relationship online and drifting away from the real world. It's starting to cause a lack of face to face communication. Teenagers don't even pay attention to the outside world or their surroundings when they’re on their phones. You get easily distracted when you are on your phone. Also technology causes you to miss out on your sleep and losing sleep have negative effects on your brain.
Nowadays, technology devices become plays an important role in our daily lives, especially in adolescents’ categories. While there is a very clear argument for how the technology is effected on us and causing social isolation as we know, but in another way is also the argument that these technologies are helping us to become more social in our society. This is very probably because we have a good and perfect ability to communicate with each other. Despite long distances. We all know that the goal of technology is to make our lives easier and more efficient.
Melissa Nilles, an Arts & Entertainment editor has stated, “Instead of spending time in person with friends, we just call, text or instant message them. It may seem simpler, but we ultimately end up seeing friends face to face a lot less” (Nilles). This shows that humans nowadays now have less experiences of the joy of true, face to face human interaction, because people text and use phones to talk. Also, Social skills in children are becoming worse from technology. Victoria Cobb, a graduate from the University of Dayton, has noticed that children have less social skills due to technology that they use in day to day life (Cobb).
According to Lindsey Craig in her article “Technology -- we all love it and we all use it, but how is it affecting us?” she stated that “Technology is making us more alone, because instead of interacting with our friends in person, we are dependent on using our phones or tablets. We start to compare
"Technology is like art. It is a soaring exercise of the human imagination". Like everything in this world that has its good and bad effects on us, technology does too. How we use technology is important in determining what results it would bring us. Nowadays, technology is heavily used for educational purposes.
