When you think about the Civil War, you usually think about people like Robert E. Lee or Ulysses S. Grant. They aren’t the only important people in the war, there are many more. One of these important people is Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, mostly known as PGT Beauregard. Beauregard was a huge help to the Confederate in the beginning of the war. He helped at a lot of the major battles.

An american soldier, Robert Gould Shaw was born on October 10, 1837 in Boston MA. So he was roughly about 24 to 25 years old when he joined the Civil War. Robert was a Union soldier in the war. Unwilling, he was a leader the famous 54th Massachusetts infantry. That was one of the first African American regiments in the Civil War.

The Peninsula Campaign was an offensive strategy the Union used to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond. Led by General George B. McClellan, the Potomac army would travel by boat to Fort Monroe in late April. McClellan planned to travel to Richmond along the peninsula formed by the York and James rivers. McClellan did not fight or act until late may, the first part of the Campaign took place at the battle of Seven Pines. The Confederacy was led by General Joseph E. Johnston, however, due to injury General Robert E. Lee took command of the Confederate army.

He is by far one of the most accomplished , honorable , and maybe the ever in the United States Military. If we had a Mount Rushmore of the most military leaders with pedigree; Lee would be on it. Robert E. Lee was on January 19 , 1807 in Stratford Hall , VA to the parents: Anne Hill Carter Lee and Revolutionary War hero Henry "Light-Horse Harry” Lee. Robert's early life was brutal. Financial hardship caused his father to abandon the family and head to the West Indies.

Before Europeans even knew of the Americas there were Indians. The Indians had diverse cultures and conflicts with each other. There were hundreds of different groups of Indians. Most hated each other and killed each other. Some sought to get beyond murder and cannibalism.

Sherman 's campaign began on November 15th when he cut the last telegraph wire that linked him to his superiors in the North. General Sherman had started to burn in Atlanta, after his Atlanta campaign. He did not end until he reached Savannah on December 22.Two days later, Sherman telegraphed President Lincoln with the message "I beg to present to you, as a Christmas gift, the city of Savannah..." Along the way, his army was joined by thousands of former slaves. Sherman stayed in Savannah until the end of January and then continued his campaign through the Carolina 's .On

The brutality of war has scarred and devastated the world since the beginning of time, and has drastically changed over the course of history. Many precious lives of loved ones have been lost to war and continue to as fighting rages on. Famous Revolutionary War hero, George Washington, stated “My first wish [as president] is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth” (George Washington Quotes). General Washington witnessed the terror of war while fighting for independence from Great Britain. Against his wishes, war and violence continued as history went on.

In the United States, during the eighteen-hundreds’, a small group of people believed that slavery was immoral and did many things to abolish it. John Brown, a Caucasian male who was part of this group of people, did two things that many people in United States history didn’t have the passion to do. John Brown’s life was very interesting: His early life and transition to adulthood, his decision to fight for the cause, his actions of violence in Kansas and Harper’s Ferry, along with, the long-lasting effects of these actions led to his hanging. These events were pivotal to the beginning of the Civil War. “John Brown was born in Torrington, Connecticut, on May 9, 1800, five months after the death of George Washington”(Marrin,7).

He remembered the explosions all around him and all of the death filling the smoke-filled air. All the death haunting his thoughts inadvertently was tearing him down to his very core. His thoughts were truly like a cloudy day, looming over him with their darkness. Although he was not still a part of the war, these thoughts never ceased. Lewis Harrison, formerly a soldier of the Union army, was reminiscing his time in the war on the train which was taking him home.

During the Mid 1800’s marked a crucial period for our country. It will have a big effect on the development of our country. Throughout this time, our country was split, split into two sections, the North and the South. The Civil war was a war fought against the North and the South, the Union and the Confederates, from 1861-1865.

On the fifth day of June, 1876, a man had a vision. Sitting Bull, a Hunkpapa Lakota spiritual leader, was in Sundance when he had visions of American soldiers falling upon his territory like grasshoppers falling from the sky. He knew that this vision would come to be true, considering the conflicts between the Indians and the US government. Sitting Bull told his people to prepare for battle.
