GOAL SETTING- is the method of recognising something you want to achieve and forming specific goals within a set timeframes. It is important as it increases an individual’s commitment towards achieving a personal goal.
Goal setting is made to encourage an individual to work harder and be more focused on the task in hand. Whether they are short, medium or long term goals.
Short tem.
These can extend from one day to one month e.g. a target that an athlete wishes to achieve after the next training session
Medium term.
This should progressively support the progress of the athlete and their coach towards achieving the long term goals
Long term.
These are set for and with athletes to help determine what their aims are and the best way of achieving them. A coach should use these to shape their coaching schedule for a season or longer. They can also run over a number of years
These are set with athletes to determinate what their aims are and the best way of achieving them. An experienced coach should be able to use these to shape their coaching schedule for the upcoming season or tournament. This is because they want to have a good performance in that competition, therefore they will start preparing it realistically. For example, setting a goal for a top level striker in football would be to get 20 goals in a season. Such as Harry Kane, Striker for Tottenham Hotspur football club.
An advantage of goal setting is that it gives the athlete long-term vision and short-term
Preparation comes into play when the opportunity has been taken. Opportunities can motivate people to work harder. Gladwell uses the example of the ages of the Canadian hockey teams because there were “an incredible number of January, February, and March birth dates” (Gladwell 22). The cutoff dates for the pee wee hockey teams in Canada is January 1st, so all the boys born from January 2nd and onwards were put in the lower division teams so they were generally bigger and stronger than the boys born 10 or 11 months after them. It did not mean that the January boys had more talent, they just had a better opportunity because the coach would select the biggest and strongest players to play in the elite hockey team.
They become a father, mentor, trainer, teacher etc. Coaches take on more roles. I have witnessed the methods of John Wooden from a previous coach. These methods build a lot of team work and make the athletes play harder. John Wooden was a great example of how well planned out a great coach could be.
One might ask why there are so many loopholes in the 4 and 20 rule and why not calculate “voluntary” workouts when accounting for the time athletes spend on their sport? Given the fact that, through numerous public statements by coaches and athletes in its own study, the NCAA is fully aware that the number of hours athletes are expected to devote to their athletic activities is well above that of the official maximum, why does it continue to limit the number of hours engaged in athletic work per week to 20? An argument can be made that the 4 and 20 rule is in place primarily to give the appearance that athletes are to be students first, an impression the NCAA desperately needs the public to believe if it is to continue to maximize profits.
Coaching is a useful way of developing people skills and abilities, and of coarse boosting performance. It can also help deal with
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Throughout my life I have always set goals and worked extremely hard to achieve them. Planning realistic goals give me clarity on what I ultimately want. It makes me crystallize and articulate the desires floating in my mind. Setting goals have always helped me achieve my highest potential.
If the coach is all the things a good coach should be then the team/individual will want to be like them and achieve what they have achieved. They might want to be able to do some skills that the coach can do, for example in hockey if the coach can do 3D skills the player might want to be able to do that because it looks cool and is
Goal-setting, hard work, and mental toughness are very important in achieving your goals. This book is a must-read for any athlete looking to take their career to the next level. Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Robert
Something that will be talked about in this paper will be effect of winning, schemes as well as fundamentals. Without being able to obtain these factors it can make a coaches legacy fall quicker than it started. That’s really what a coach’s life is all about being able to create a name for their desire to be accomplish. That’s really what make a coach name stick out for the ages. Not all coaches are going to have historical number’s, but the good ones will still always be around ready to take on a team success.
In any case, with the goal competitors should play out their greatest without stopping for even a minute, they have to ensure that they are taking in the most ideal fuel through their nutrition (Akermark et al.
As a coach, I believe that coaching is “unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them” which was stated by John Whitman. I agree with this quote because as a coach I want to do what is best for each player individually. Therefore, I stress the importance of accountability, punctuality, discipline, but most importantly great sportsmanship. Every action or reaction of each person affects the entire team.
This is the first level of the sports continuum and is the majority of participants. It includes young people taught in physical education lessons. It provides basic sporting skills and provides an acquisition of good exercise and skill habits. The basic skills are taught to be transferred.
You decided to become a coach because you are driven to serve. You want to help people achieve their goals and dreams. You want to live a life of passion and purpose. You want the freedom of being paid to do what you love to do.
Through coaching, one can overcome some obstacles he may face in life as he builds on his talent. One is also able to convert ideas into reality during the process of coaching. Through coaching, one can prioritize on what is important to him and achieve it fast and the rest later. The role of the coach is to nurture that talent and make sure that it grows further.
A fitness goal setting is an important process before embarking onto any weight loss activities. Many people have tried different weight loss programs, but could not reach their wanted fitness level. Some lost the motivation along the way, some got injured and others stopped few days before starting. Usually, this happens because they lacked necessary planning, proper actions and the biggest reason they want to be fit. Actually, setting a fitness goal is easier than you think.
(Salancik & Pfeffer, 1977) a study found that the use of the “word” goal indicates to an individual that a task is achievable. This study stresses the use of the word “goal” has a positive impact on motivation, a point held by the goal setting theory. This could therefore be applied to my EPP experience with the use of the word goal being used to describe objectives and aspirations of the organisation. However, within my time at the organisation goal setting theory was not always described as goals we needed to achieve, this may have intern limited the possible motivation given to tasks. Some goals set were not being achieved, which counters goal setting theories stance on setting achievable goals.
