Those who underachieve in their education are much more likely to go on and live dysfunctional lives and be unable to support a stable family life for their own children.
As a society we are in danger of creating an expanding, perpetuating and toxic circle. We believe that young people face intolerable strain from an education system which cannot stand failure. From an early age, children face the pressure to perform in exams to boost their schools image. Aggression and anger attracts attention. Striking out at whoever seems responsible for the problem brings temporary relief. But aggressive actions, like drinking too much, driving recklessly, swearing at people, and breaking up things, can cause trouble in the long run. Just leave me alone!” …show more content…

The teenage suicide rate has risen to crisis proportions over the past 20 years. It is estimated that 5,000 to 6,000 teenagers kill themselves each year and at least ten times that -50,000to 60,000 attempt suicide. Because many suicide attempts go unreported or are reported as accidents, the estimated number may be as high as 500,000 per year. While females attempt suicide more often than males, at a rate of 4:1, males "succeed" more often, at the same rate –(SUICIDE AMONG SCHOOL AGE YOUTH, l984.)
Our achievement-oriented, highly competitive society puts pressure on teens to succeed, often forcing them to set unrealistically high personal expectations. In an affluent society which emphasizes immediate rewards, adolescents are not taught to be tolerant of frustration. Some researchers attribute teenage suicide to the weakening of the family unit. So many people lose this interest and curiosity, not usually by choice but rather because they don't have the energy. Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally so that your brain stays active and hungry. The desire to learn can be an asset.
