How do you use the Johnson & Scholes framework to determine the optimal strategy choice?
The Johnson and Scholes framework focus on how organizations or individuals can use analysis tools to determine their optimal strategy choices. There are three analytic dimensions presented in this framework; they are suitability, feasibility, and acceptability. That being said, there are various ways to use the Johnson and Scholes framework to determine the optimal strategy choice. First and foremost, it is essential to examine if the strategy we have is in compliance with the external business factors-PEST (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2010). For example, an organization’s strategy to increase its revenue was by collecting toxic chemical waste from manufacturing industries and in turn dumps the chemicals in rivers and buried some underneath the ground, resulting in a massive pollution and destruction of the environment. This strategy is never suitable to the environmental factors of PEST. Apparently, compliance and suitability is the framework to determine an organization’s optimal strategy choice. This compliance and suitability should be evaluated using the following tools; the Porter’s five forces, PESTLE analysis, lifecycle analysis, etc. Additionally, organizations can use feasibility analysis to evaluate what resources they have and that can, to a large intent determine how their strategy would be implemented (Johnson & Scholes, 2015).
