The greatest risk factor for child obesity is the obesity of both parents. This may be reflected by the family's environment and genetics. Other factors that can bring child obesity may be due to psychological factors and the child's body type. Though not common, there are also genetic diseases and hormonal disorders that can make a child prone to obesity. Polymorphisms in various genes controlling appetite and metabolism predispose individuals to obesity when sufficient calories are present.

The rise in obesity and its comorbidities among young is multifactorial in cause, including increased access to foods high in fats, added sugars and calories, larger portion sizes and a sedentary lifestyle. The diversity of these contributors to childhood obesity has made it difficult to design simple, achievable, public health solutions (Australian Health survey, 2011). Studies have been conducted to identify strategies to combat obesity among youth; yet much remains to be understood. But, the mechanisms responsible for the growing occurrence of childhood overweight or obesity are not entirely implicit, unhealthy dietary behaviours have a vital role (WHO,

The article I found the most interesting and presented a great use of Toulmin argument is Prevalence and Trends of Sever Obesity Among US Children and Adolescents. While not stated in the title the article presents three arguments. One, that the old measure for identifying obesity among children is outdated and inaccurate, Second, that with the new information that obesity among children has increased over the years. Third, that catching sever obesity early is key to catching “cardiovascular risk factors and higher levels of adiposity”. The actual claim was difficult for me to distinguish, First, I considered the objective to contain the claim.

My purpose of writing this rhetorical situation is to inform. I hope to inform the readers about the drastic increase of childhood obesity and diabetes within America’s population. I will analyze this topic, separate it into the two types of obesity, and tell how those are affecting the population. I will also discuss the factors that are contributing to obesity and how both type 1 and 2 diabetes rates within children are increasing every year. I will be sure to discuss how the reader can help to decrease these rates and what America needs to do as a whole to change the youth population.
Every human been is unique and special in their own way. This is an important topic, because a large percentage of teenagers suffer from eating disorders daily. Eating disorders are proven to be the most fatal mental illness and we need to do our best to change that. First, parents should start encouraging their children in consuming healthy foods with nutritional value, to avoid obesity. In addition, parents should promoting outdoors activities and an active lifestyle for their families.
Childhood obesity was defined as one of the epidemics of our modern society and it has changed to pandemic (WHO, 2000) due to increased number of cases around the world. The latest report from the World Health Organization confirmed 42 million infants and young children were overweight and obese (WHO, 2013). Australia experienced a high rate of obesity in the adult population and a fast growing increase in childhood obesity, counting 1 in 4 children becoming obese. This situation makes a big burden to the Public health system due to the expenditure of health promotions and interventions to increase healthy eating and physical activity in order to decrease levels of obesity (Australia Government, 2009). Development countries have been experiencing
Bad sleep can lead to obesity and diabetes for teens and high schoolers who already skimp on sleep have a higher risk of diabetes in the future. As an already obese teen, losing sleep can also increase the risk of getting diabetes. For teens who already have diabetes, not
It is such a major issue because childhood obesity easily leads to obesity in adulthood that increases the risks for heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, and cancer (Nutrition). Therefore an objective of Healthy People 2020 is to decrease the risks of chronic diseases by increasing the rate of those with healthy body weights. The main focus of achieving this is by encouraging healthy eating behaviors. Another goal of Healthy People 2020 is to improve health through physical activity, which has a major effect on obesity. They have new objectives now focusing on increasing
In any case, now we should investigate the larger picture, which is that in ten years that is a total gain of thirty pounds. This weight gain can lead to type two diabetes which is associated with being overweight and numerous health issues emerge, for example, heart attack, stroke and kidney disease just to name a few. There are so many negative side consequences for obesity and essentially, we need to commit to fighting this epidemic. I must say it is disturbing that this is the first generation of children that will live a shorter life than their parents will. I think one serious issue is that food quality has decreased in a major way because corporations want to maximize profit.
The happiness of the American people is in jeopardy because of the increase in obesity related health problems and the lack of food education in the public education system. Many of the processed foods that are part of the Standard American Diet are full of sugar. Too much sugar is causing many of the health problems in America. Many of the healthcare problems in America is somehow related to or caused by obesity. The top three leading causes of death – stroke, cancer, and heart disease – are all caused by obesity (Oliver 2010).
