There are many ideas that come to mind when asked about being a good neighbor. The most important is to give back to the community; volunteerism is key to being a good neighbor. I have shown this in many ways that I will explain further. For five years now, I have volunteered at the Summer Reading program at the Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library. I took up many duties during my time volunteering, such as serving food, helping the children complete their crafts, cleaning, and doing several activities. Some days they would complete a craft which I would help to direct them with, and other days there would be a full activity depending on the theme of the program that summer. I would serve them their snacks, and also clean up after them when they finished. Of five years of doing this, I have completed at least 100 hours of community service at the library. Critter Club was another program at the Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library that I also volunteered for. I had much of the same responsibilities, other than I dealt strictly with children under four years old only, making it more of a tedious job, and required much more cleaning. I served them snacks and cleaned up after them, and ready them stories on the letters they learned that day. I would also help them with their crafts, or complete crafts for the younger babies. …show more content…
There is a program, King’s Kids, which involves teaching children about Christianity while having fun. I also volunteered there for half a decade and was considered a valuable member of the staff. Most of my duties resided in the kitchen making and serving snacks to the children, but there were rare occurrences in which I would teach them Bible lessons or help with crafts. Almost every week there are over a hundred children that attend and worked to feed them all, whether it was baking snacks, pouring drinks, cleaning tables, or serving the
I have volunteered at the Catholic Worker House preparing and serving food. I have also served food at the Salvation Army. I have volunteered at the Cedar Valley United Way, helping them with stuff around the office. Outside of school service I help my grandma, who has had a stroke. I'm always there to help her clean and get around the house.
In 2007, I, along with a few of my peers, founded the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild as a way to give back to our community. Since then, this nonprofit organization has raised thousands of dollars that has gone to support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Throughout my middle school and high school years, I have been very involved with this group. When I had the opportunity to choose a service placement for this year, I immediately knew I would be doing my service through the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild because of my previous involvement with the guild and my passion for the cause the guild supports.
Previous to High School, I volunteered in the mall at Cafe Barnabas where I started to gain working experience. I got a chance to work with customers and do a lot of hands on tasks. I had a very fun time and grew strong bonds with the people I worked
Through my organization, I have earned over 500 hours of community service and was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Bronze Medallion for my continued efforts in giving back to the community. During the summer, I assist
Volunteering time at church and school have become a major part of what I do. The youth group I belong to at St. Thomas UCC collects items and put together hygiene bags for the YWCA. For school, I often volunteer to help with the bands, working in the kitchen for Indoor Drumline shows and helping to set up the Craft Show. I also assist my classmates if they request it. If a student is absent, I will take responsibility to send them notes they may have missed in class, and also what they homework is so they can attempt to do it.
Last March, I came to realize that all of my focus was only on school, sports, and work and I didn't take the time to help out my community in enough ways as I should. I wanted to do something that I would enjoy and knew that I loved kids so I decided to email our elementary school principal and see if there was anything I could do to help out in the school. So ever since then, I started going in every Thursday to volunteer with whatever he needed me to do. Sometimes I would work for him, other times for the librarian, secretary, or other teachers.
1. What do you do on a typical day at work? On a typical day, I see children from newborn to 21 years old, for well child care exams, sick visits, behavior consults, and general concerns. I also talk with parents on the phone answering questions and concerns.
I love volunteering because even though you don't get money for helping someone, you get the joy and happiness of knowing you did something good for someone else. Being a member of Key Club and Junior Optimist I have the opportunity to volunteer frequently in the community and to the school. I have volunteered to work in various booths at the Glandorf Park Fest. I helped work at the YMCA Trunk or Treat to pass out candy to the little kids on Halloween. A group of my friends went over to Kalida to help with the Triathlon.
Within all these clubs we volunteer in the community throughout the years, like the Chapman Township Haunted House we do for the community every year. In the summer I also participate in the Saint Joe’s Festival, which is held by the church I’m a member of. I usually help run the game stations.
Finally, in my 5th grade year at LaPerche Elementary, I created an organization that helped soldiers. I worked with my 5th grade teacher to help spread the word. I collected all sorts of toiletries and essentials for soldiers that had been deployed. As you can see, being a good citizen is near and dear to my
” Can I have a cup of sugar?” is one of the questions a neighbor would hear daily. A good neighbor is a person who lives in your community that is concerned about the wellbeing of the people who live around them. They are always there when you call on them. It may be square gatherings and house-warming endowments and watering each other's plants while traveling. That is the thing that great neighbors do. "
I also helped run our school carnival and class booths. My suggestions that were used were the bottle flipping race and treasure hunt. As part of my responsibilities as class representative, I was responsible for getting supplies, setting up and taking down the game, and running the game when students came to play. I am a very good student, I have always earned 4’s and 5’s in every class, social skills, and work habits. I was also involved in a program called women in history at my school.
As time goes on and after learning one or two things, a child becomes more inclined to take on responsibilities that require a little bit of seriousness. This allows the daycare teacher to give such desired tasks, like arranging the table during snack hours. In turn, those activities are the ones that readily give a sense of expertise to the child as lessons of care of self and others are greatly put into work. Besides activities as putting their toys in the right place and washing their hands before eating, children are also taught to be resourceful to others. This creates an environment where the competent kids get to help those who are new and
Beneficiaries called to ask me if I wanted to perform community service at a cathedral in Dallas, TX. I agreed because I like to volunteer in any event when it is needed. This event was called “Feed the Hunger,” which I signed up for and looked forward to because of my desire to lend a hand and assist the needy and unfortunate. At first, I thought this event was just one of those other community service opportunities that I am usually called to facilitate and volunteer my time. However, in the end, this occasion was a life-changing experience.
I did voluntary work as part of my Systems of Knowledge project at BeeSmart Childcare Centre. As a responsible citizen I was responsible of the children at BeeSmart. I took care of the children, I drew with them, I played with them, I feed them, made crafts, listened nursery rhymes with them and also watched cartoons. I took care of the children between the age of two and three years old. I tried my best to be a good example for the children and helped them in every situation.
