A Long Way Gone Superhero

It is proven that people look up to others as heroes because it is in the human nature, but what makes a hero? The qualities of a hero consist of excellence and courage used for the greater good. In the story of Beowulf, that took place in the Anglo-Saxon Culture, Beowulf uses these heroic traits to save the Danes from a beast named Grendel, as it had been bothering the Danes for a long time. In the modern age, heroes like Malala Yousafzai are displaying the same traits that were displayed in the Anglo-Saxon culture by heroes like Beowulf, but as the times are changing, the qualities of a hero are manifested differently.

Everybody has their own opinion of what a hero is. A hero is someone who does what they believe is right, no matter what anybody has to say. They stand their ground and don’t fall into negativity. A hero is someone who is selfless and inspires us to be a better version of our own selves. One of the best examples of a hero is Atticus Finch, a lawyer and father in the 1930s in the book To Kill A Mockingbird. Many may believe a different character in the novel is worthy enough of being called a leader but since the beginning of the book Atticus has greatly demonstrated the strong and bold qualities of a hero.

A hero is someone who puts others before themselves. Heroic acts can range from small gestures or actions such as saving countless lives. Heroes are known for their outstanding achievements and selflessness. Welles Crowther was a hero because he put other people's lives ahead of his own and sacrificed his life for others..

Do you know what defines a hero? Fictional heroes are characters who go through a long process called the Hero's Journey. Real life heroes can be similar to the fictional ones. Heroes are the people who help and inspire others.

Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.

Harvey Dent, white knight, saviour and “hero” of the infamous Gotham. Batman on the other hand, is the Dark Knight and the troubled hero who chose his identity over the people. Many believe that the movie the Dark Knight, communicates to viewers the superficial perspective of Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey. However, Batman transcends that perspective of true heroism and what it means to be a hero. The underlying message in which the movie argues is that the whole concept of heroism is simply a myth created in Hollywood.

A hero does not fight for fame and glory but for the greater good. A hero is someone who goes through adversity to help others in desperate times. A hero fights evil, and defends people. Beowulf should be considered a hero because he is a strong, brave warrior who defended his people and slayed evil monsters.

What qualifies a person to be called a hero? Officially a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Most people think of a superhero, like Batman or Spiderman, or someone closer to them such as their mother or their life-saving doctor. Heroes tend to be the main character in a story. Beowulf and Odysseus are two famous epic heroes in the texts Beowulf and The Odyssey. They both go through the “Hero’s Journey,” and display many characteristics of a hero. Beowulf, however, better fits the qualities of an epic hero due to his unselfish personality, his fearlessness, and his nobility.

The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word 'hero ', is comic books, avengers, justice league, super villains etc. Physically, they are usually tall, big, and super strong. On the mental side, they are described as someone who is brave, courageous, determined and are willing to help others and even risk their lives by taking sacrifices. All in all, a hero as seen by many, is portrayed as someone who represents the best qualities of ourselves. However, for someone to be considered a hero, they don 't necessarily need to have all of these qualities as described above. According to Joseph Campbell, author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, every hero has a journey, and every hero 's journey consist of a departure, an initiation, and a return. Therefore, although Holden may not be seen as the society 's typical hero, his characteristics and attributes make him seem like one.

Most of the time, the obstacle seems to big for them to handle, but they overcome it in the end. A hero can be anyone in the world. A neighbor, a child, a firefighter, or a politician. Heroes are determined, they never do anything for personal gain, and they always fight for good.

Who is your hero? It may be your dad or, perhaps another family member, one that you have known your whole life as a hero. Maybe it is a fictional character. A person that you don't know or have never seen, but still you think of them as a hero. No matter who someone's hero is one thing stays the same. A hero is someone that has strived to help out of their own will.

Most people would say that a hero is somebody that has super powers and wears a costume. Heroes don't have to be over powered beings; they can be regular humans. A hero can be anybody that takes risks shows courage, shows bravery and helps people in need. Heroes have a positive effect on the world. Usually, heroes "fight" against issues that affect them personally. That is why most people would consider Harriet Tubman and Elizabeth Blackwell heroes. Harriet Tubman was fighting for the end of racial discrimination. Elizabeth Blackwell was fighting for the end of discrimination of woman in the medical field.

What is a hero? To most, it’s probably the classic superhero- the one with superpowers and can fly. To others, it might be a fictional character with a magic wand or a demigod in a prophecy. To some, it might be a real life person- a famous one or the ones who raised you. But a hero isn’t just defined by their superpowers or what book they come from, it’s the choice to do the right thing even if it means getting hurt in the process. Heroes don’t have to be from a book or a movie franchise. Heroes can be ordinary people thrust into impossible situations or one who sticks their neck out to save yours.

Courage is shown through Atticus Finch when he decides he’s going to defend Tom Robinson in the trial. Tom was a black man who everyone knew was correct in the trial, but most people in Maycomb were racist and thought he should go to jail. Atticus knows he will be ostracised and hated for defending this man against a white woman, but he has courage to stand up for what he knows is right even

People can be seen as courageous for standing up for themselves or going to war, when courage should really be recognized when someone goes out of their comfort zone, such as talking to someone new to saying an opinion. As E. E. Cummings says, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”. Courage is not only an act; it is what makes a person. To Kkill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a book that portrays the acts of courage both large and small that happen every day. Many people such as Boo, Jem and Scout show courage through the book but one person in particular that shows a great deal of courage is Atticus who shows courage in many different ways in order to protect himself, his family and the town of Maycomb.
