AGRICULTURE & FOOD
Agriculture is the cultivation of animals, plants, fungi and other life forms for food, fibre, biofuel, medicinal and other products used to sustain and enhance human life. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilisation, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that nurtured the development of civilisation. Agriculture is one of the most important human life supporting systems required for living.
For agriculture in the space settlement we use:-
• Hydroponics
• Aquaponics
HYDROPONICS
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in water based nutrient rich solution. Hydroponics does not use soil; instead the root system is supported using an inert medium such as perlite, rockwool, clay pellets, peat moss, or vermiculite. The basic premise behind hydroponics is to allow the plants roots to come in direct contact with the nutrient solution, while also having access to oxygen, which is essential for proper growth.

With the proper setup, the plants will mature up to 25% faster and produce up to 30% more than the same plants grown in
They used charts, lists, pictures, data, predictions, and experiments to learn this information. This could be useful for many people who want to keep their plants
If the experiment was completed again, more higher concentrations could be applied to the seeds to see if the data is further supported. Either way the more trials the better and more accurate results, this applies to any experiment. Practical applications of the principles of this investigation may be using the correct concentration for a specific plant or seed. This lab shows that it is necessary to follow the directions and specifications when using the fertilizer miracle
It is a short-day plant and tends to flower and bear fruit earlier in spring than most native species and this allows it to grow better with little to no competition (Huebner et al., 2006; Axtell et al., 2010; Kertabad et al., 2013). When lesser celandine grows, it tends to form in patches of green marsh that inhibit the growth of native plant species and shortly after these green marshes form it drops green sepals exposing bright yellow flowers (Axtell et al., 2010; Kertabad et al., 2013). The flowering process of lesser celandine is controlled by a few indication variables such as; water availability, light reception, and temperature (Axtell et al., 2010). It is an unusual plant when it comes to reproduction as it is a dicotyledon, but it only produces monocotyledon seedlings (Kertabad et al., 2013). Lesser celandine may use aerial bulblets for reproduction, but it primarily reproduces through subterranean bulblets or tubers (Axtell et al.
Have you ever thought about the jobs that agriculture provides? Agriculture gives us food, clothing, and jobs? Correct! Agriculture reflects on everyone’s job, especially those who govern agriculture daily. Agriculture is the base of society itself, and is a very reliable source.
The Nutty Professor Why is agriculture so important? Agriculture is the process of farming animals and plants for human consumption. This process is important because it controls what we put into our body. Naturally, any change made in this field affects everyone. One man made significant contributions to this practice.
However, after investigation through gel electrophoresis, the three kinds of plants were not identical. This relates to the
However, our experiment was to test if the amount of water used to water each crop was unnecessary. We watered a group of plants with the average amount of water used in farms, watered a group of plants with a little less than average, and watered a group of plants with a small amount of water. We normally watered the plants with the average amount until all of the plants germinated. After the plants germinated, we started our experiment and controlled the amount of water. After about two weeks our experiment was over.
Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether the amount of topsoil would influence the growth of radish plants. It was hypothesized that if the amount of topsoil increased by 50% would increase because topsoil contains the essential nutrients which are required for proper plant growth. The principle findings indicated that a medium amount of topsoil is ideal for plant growth as the radish plant potted in 50 ml of topsoil experienced the most growth in comparison to the radish plants potted either in 25 ml or 200 ml of topsoil. Introduction: A healthy layer of topsoil comprises of a mixture of clay, sand, silt, and humus that supply the plants with vital nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other necessary
To have a healthy plant with good roots, you must cultivate the soil.
Human civilization evolved over a period of time. People’s life, behaviour and adoption have been changed from gathering and hunting to urbanization stage. In the beginning, people were depending on gathering and hunting then they reached the stage of cultivation of crops and this way agriculture began. At that time people did agriculture from bare hands, later on, plough developed. At that time, agriculture production is low because of lack of agricultural knowledge and technological inputs were also low which bind the whole family to work in agriculture fields.
Regarding the circumstances the plant will not grow as they do not have the ‘“sunshine” to do
Agriculture is the modification of Earth’s surface through the cultivation of plants and animals through the cultivation of plants and animals to obtain economic gain. It was also a key development for the rise of the domestication of animals. Although, its origins cannot be documented for certainty because agriculture began before recorded history, scholars believe that it was started in Southwest Asia. Also, agriculture entails selective breeding of animals with combinations of inherited characteristics that benefits humans. Around the world, agriculture’s steps are the same, but the type of animals that were raised or cultivated differently.
This experiment is an attempt to investigate the amount of water potential across root storage plant species. The root storage plant species that shall be used are the carrot and the potato and the method that shall be used is known as Chardakov’s method. Water potential is the tendency of water to enter or leave a cell. Water moves from an area or region of low water potential to an area of high water potential. It is important to note that the highest water potential is 0(the water potential of pure water) and the other water potential values are in negative numbers .
Introduction: “Sustainable agriculture is the efficient production of safe high quality agricultural products, in a way that protects and improves the natural environment the social and economic conditions of farmers their employees and local communities and safe guard the health and welfare of all farmed species“ There are three main principles of sustainable agriculture, the three principles are: 1. Economic sustainability 2. Environmental sustainability 3. Social sustainability With the human population continuing to rise, it is vital that the agricultural industry becomes more sustainable to meet the needs of the growing population. One of the impacts of this growing population is an increase in land usage for settlement purposes.
Introduction Plants are a major necessity in the balance of nature, people’s lives, and our terrain. We may not realize it, but plants are the ultimate source of food for almost 95% of the world population so says the National Group of Food. It’s a fact that over 7,000 species of plants are being consumed today. Plants are one of the reasons that we get clean water; as they help regulate the water cycle.
