Ancient Egypt Almost all people know the story of the tower of Bable. It all began with the people finding a place in Shinar. After, they started to build a tower into Heaven. God was not pleased with this. As punishment, God caused them to spread to all of the earth. A while later the foundation of Egypt started because of all the fertile land around the Nile River. Then they needed someone to be the ruler. Egyptian rulers, known as pharaohs, set down rules and laws. Pyramids have many shapes, step pyramids that look like giant steps, bent pyramids that halfway to the top look as if it bent inward, and the Giza pyramids that look like the typical pyramid. Over many thousands of years, the sand storms in the Sahara had covered the Sphinx entirely. The Sphinx has had damage done to it- its nose is gone and its sides have been stripped of its covering panels. In the article “New Discoveries in Ancient Egypt” by Bryan Brown, the journalist writes about the discovery of 6 connected graves at the ancient graveyard, Abydos. In the excerpt from Curse of the Pharaohs, archaeologist Zahi Hawass writes about the discovery of 4 statues belonging to a man named Inty Shedu. In the texts, both authors use descriptive writing with a positive connotation to convey the historical importance of the discoveries.

Menkaure and Khamerernebty is a “4th Dynasty statue found in Giza, Egypt and its age is spans from 2490 to 2472 BCE; it stands 4’6 ½” high and is made from greywacke.” The perfect form befitting a ruler, during Old Kingdom Egypt, was described as having a “well-developed, flawless body and a perfect face, regardless of age and appearance” and the statue of Menkaure and Khamerernebty served its purpose by displaying Menkaure as the perfect male king and Khamerernebty as the perfect female queen. In the statue of Menkaure and Khamerernebty, Menkaure is wearing a nemes, the headdress of an Egyptian pharaoh, a long fake beard, and a kilt with protruding cloth in the middle to show that he is king or pharaoh. The statue Menkaure and Khamerernebty is also described both as having “high cheekbones, bulbous nose, slight furrows running diagonally from his nose to the corners of his mouth, and lower lip thrust out in a slight pout” with slight differences with “her face having feminine fleshiness.”
