One of the most debated and intense arguments is the issue on gun control and gun policies. Gun control and gun rights is always an emotional topic that has been fought in the political arena for many years, especially during presidential elections. Gun control proponents want to see all guns extinguished and they believe that guns are a key problem to crime, but gun rights advocates believe that the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Gun control is not the solution to limiting or restricting crime. First off, I want to go over the fact that most criminals usually don’t get their guns legally and that by putting forth a law it would not guarantee lower crime rates. One way is to conduct more thorough and extensive background checks for a person purchasing a gun or getting a concealed carry license. For example, the federal gun control law passed in 1993 mandates federal background checks on gun buyers, but even with this law in place around 40 percent of all gun sales in the U.S. are estimated to be private transactions that don't require any background checks. This could be changed to make sure that prior to all gun purchases, there should be a complete background check on the individual trying to purchase the gun. This law could help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people such as criminals and other prohibited gun purchasers. Another way to try and reduce gun violence would be to better monitor illegally bought guns coming in from other countries unlawfully. An additional safeguard is to implement a ban on weapons of extreme damage such as assault rifles, machine guns, and certain handguns. These precautions could help better control the concerns over armed weapons while still giving our citizens the choice to bear arms. In conclusion, the debate for gun control seems to flood the media constantly causing many debates. It’s a very controversial issue and many would agree that a gun control policy could possibly do more bad than good. Even if you are pro gun control or anti gun control, there are ways we as a country could come to an compromise
