The field of criticism is one that varies from academic to absurd. There are critics in academia who examine data, creative works, and various cultural anomalies to learn a higher truth about the world. There are media critics who judge bodies, faces, and “looks.” While these media critics provide valid insight into the cultural ideals of society, this criticism has not found a place in academia (excepting the arts, where judgement of beauty is based not from the subject, but the form and medium). A third kind of criticism falls in between the two: a form of criticism that, while primarily entertainment, is an academic medium which analyzes the arts in society.
Reading Presence by Amy Cuddy makes to believe there are much more dealing with same challenges. The more I read, the more I learn about our mindset, listening, failure, feeling as we don’t deserve to be here, feeling powerful and powerless. There’s are a quote in a book which states “ Power makes us approach, powerless makes us avoid.” When we think about positive things and having a positive outcome than we are more chance of approaching. While I was reading a passage on power and powerless, It made me think of time during my high school soccer tryout for varsity.
Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. I have gained many experiences by attending different colleges and learning from different instructors in different formats. I have gained experiences personally from life events that have given me the drive and motivation I have today. I have completed my BSN program all online so I have great experience with online programs.
In life, having to overcome an obstacle or barrier isn't an uncommon thing. I've been through many difficult obstacles but there was one in particular that took much effort and a few of Jackie Robinson's nine values, until I could finally overcome this particular obstacle. This obstacle was a lack of confidence and self-doubt. A few causes of self doubt would be low self esteem, excessive criticism in the past, or an inner voice or critic that encourages negative talk about one's self.
Imagine going to school and really succeeding; you understand everything, you’re getting good grades and all the praise you can dream of from your parents and teachers. But then you move up and things get harder, you don’t understand everything, your grades are dropping and you are scared that you will no longer get that praise. You have two options, you can either take on the challenge and get back to where you used to be, or you can sit down when you feel threated by the hard work. In “Brainology” by author Carol S. Dweck, we are shown research concerning those two options or “mindsets” and how we can change them.
I do believe that every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something good. Whatever obstacle that is thrown at us we always have to find a way to solve it out, they always may seem like the impossible but everything is fixable. So with that being said, yes every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something better. Some people say that obstacles like that or having disadvantages can’t turn into something good. They say it makes people even fear more because they are scared and don’t think they have a way out of it.

This semester I have learned a considerable amount in Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise. The wide array of content covered helped me learn a lot about different subjects. Some of my favorite activities were the Fitness Fridays and the various speakers. I was glad this class had a mixture of ways that the material was presented because it helped really understand the topics. The main topics that I feel like changed my lifestyle the most were the Behavior Change Contract, the Access Yourself Quizzes, and the lectures.
Through this course I’ve learned skills of how to lead and work as a unit with others. Also through moving through the ranks and this past year being the Alpha Company commander with the rank of Cadet Captain I learned how to take responsibility of the actions and deeds of my unit and myself. It also helped me to see that being on the top of the food chain with many below you at your command isn’t all fun and games it entails things like knowing if your company’s data is all squared away and if everyone is up to date, if they all have uniforms and if not when will they get them, and if they have them are they wearing them correctly, who's going to promotion board are they ready is their uniform squared away and things like
