• For designing the biological waste water treatment process and design BOD values are of paramount importance as they are helpful in calculating the influent and effluent load requirement’s.
• The index for organic matter can be determined by the BOD values which will give an idea about the complexity of the organic pollutants present and the time requirements for its treatment, removal and other parameters.
• BOD values will give an idea of the duration required for the discharged waste water into a stream to be completely assimilated and treated naturally in the stream.
• It is the best qualitative test for

Removal of grit from the waste water is of importance for the treatment process reliability. Even though they are dimensionally smaller they cause several problems during the operation like – blockage, abrasion or damage to the pumps and other equipments, form a large part of the waste solids and take lasrge space in the digesters and because of their size they cannot be easily removed from equipments such as digesters or taks in which sedimentation is being carried out and interfere with the process of digestion creating odour.
The major constituents of Grit are solids that are having a greater specific gravity than that of the organic solids – sands, cinder, gravel and minor constituents include coffee grounds, large food particles, seeds, egg shells, chips of bones, etc. grit constituents are in one way inert to the treatment process. The specific gravity is approximately 2.65 and dimensionally equal to or greater than 0.011 inch. Some treatment plants will require the removal of particles having the dimesnisions equal to or greater than 0.007 in. this procedure is economically favourable than other other stages of the treatment.
1. Introduction 1.1 History of the Gowanus Canal The Gowanus Canal, located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, is one of the most heavily contaminated bodies of water in the United States. The dimensions of the Gowanus canal are 100-feet wide and 1.8 miles long. The canal is built in the mid-1800’s as a major industrial transportation route. Historically was surrounded by heavy industries such as gas plants, concrete plants, industrial plants, chemical plants, tanneries and paper mills.
We know from the statement that the volume of the silver nitrate solution was 50 mL
The Zassenhaus Santiago Coffee Mill Grinder is one of the high-end brands in the coffee milling field. It 's crafted by artisans, and the company has been in grinder production for over 150 years. While they wouldn 't be considered cheap, you 're getting a grinder with a history and craftsmanship that makes them worth the price. For coffee lovers looking for a good grinder that will give them high-quality, perfectly ground beans, you can 't do much better than the Zassenhaus Santiago Coffee Mill Grinder. About the Company The German company was founded in 1867.
Swirl the solution to ensure that the NaOH is properly dissolved in the deionised water. B) Prepare an Oxalic Acid Solution (approximately 0,05M) 1. Place a clean, dry glass beaker on the electronic scale. 2. Determine the mass of the glass beaker.
Therefore to get rid of these, coagulants and flocculants would need be used to separate them from the
Another variable of the experiment that was controlled was the time in which the agar cubes spent in the sulphuric acid. The time allowed calculation of the rate of diffusion. The size of the agar cubes was controlled by using a grid and scalpel to, as accurately as possible, cut the agar cubes into the appropriate sizes. The shape of the agar cubes was also controlled. In future, this could be experimented with to investigate how different shaped agar blocks affect surface area to volume ratio and hence the rate of
It is commonly used in organic chemistry laboratories suction filtration or vacuum filtration. The solution can be supersaturated, unsaturated or saturated. Vacuum filtrations is used to assemble recrystallized
Several experiments were conducted in order to test the water quality of a nearby water source, otherwise known as Lake Ripple. Such tests included testing for bare soil, bank erosion, water odor, soil odor, water appearance, benthic macroinvertebrates, coliform bacteria, dissolved oxygen, BOD, nitrates, pH, phosphates, temperature, and turbidity. All of these tests would be used to determine the overall quality of the water of Lake Ripple. There were two testing sites used to determine more accurate results. Samples were taken from water sources on the hill near the school grounds and from the area around the dam.
(Molarity)(Volume)(Molar mass) The pellets were dissolved thoroughly then was used in filling up the 100 mL volumetric flask. The solution was mixed well
DETERMINATION OF PERCENTAGE ETHANOL IN BEVERAGES 1. Introduction to Gas Chromatography Gas chromatography is a very powerful separation technique for compounds that are reasonably volatile. The components of a sample partitions into two phases, the 1st of these phases is a immobile bed with a great surface area, and the other is a gas phase that permeates through the immobile bed. The sample is evaporated and passed by the mobile gas phase or the carrier gas through the column. Samples separates into the stationary liquid phase, based on their solubilities at the given temperature.
The purpose of the analysis of Module 9, is to find the Dissolved Oxygen concentrate (mg/l) by using a HACH HQ40d portable multi-meter (field instrument method) and a HACH Digital titrator (method 8215 or known as Winkler method) for a tap water sample and its duplicate drawn from the Churn splitter as a main source. Further, we analyzed the sample and its duplicate for (pH, Temperature, Conductivity, and TDS) by using (Oakton PCS tester 35 series). The obtained results compared to its precision by using the equation (1) below and compared within the EPA standard limits: 1. Precision (as RPD) %=
Introduction Dimension stones All natural stones* which can be cut to sizes, polished and used for construction purposes, are referred to as dimensional stones.,) including marble, granite and slate { m p _plant) the dimension stones basically consists of two main classes of rocks: “Calcareous material” or “Marble” comprising the whole class of carbonate rocks amenable to sawing and polishing, and “Siliceous material” or “Granite” including the whole set of eruptive rocks having granular structure and poly-mineral composition these two classes represent the large majority of „dimension stones (Ciccu et al., 2005).(paper9) Marble The word Marble comes from Greek word “Mamaros” which means shining stone Marble is a non-foliated, Granular Metamorphic
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
Water is the most important component found on the surface of the earth because it is source of life for living creatures. However, water pollution has become a global concern. Water pollution can have several forms from diverse sources. It is expected that there will be a lack of clean water in next few decades due to pollution. Nile river water in Egypt is the focus of attention of many studies due to many reasons.
Introduction By the year 2025, the Philippines is believed to be brought to a water crisis if no new sources of water are developed or found to meet the growing demand of the citizens. (Sapnu, R., Balabo, D., & Cervantes, D., 2007) "There is a Japan International Cooperation Agency study that says that if we will not conserve water, there may be some problems. But of course we can always start conserving now and look for other sources," Lopez (2013) said. Studies have shown how water conservation and appropriate water utilization are significant as early as today.
