The boy’s mother shot herself, he has seen cannibalism, slavery, and people reduced to monsters and broken shells of humanity, but he is still fighting and trying to be one of the good guys. He still wants to help the little boy when he meets him, still wants to help Ely when he meets them (McCarty, 162); The Boy still has a desire to help people who are suffering. He is starving, but he wants to give away his food so that the people who are good in this world won’t die.

The book I chose to read was called “Shattered” by Debra Puglisi Sharp and Marjorie Preston. It depicts Debra’s life and how she was kidnapped from her home in April, 1998. She was a loving wife to her husband, Nino, who died being shot by the kidnapper. She also has two twins who were in college at the time named Michael and Melissa. Debra was tending to her garden when she then goes back into the house and is hit on the head by the kidnapper knocking her off her feet. The kidnapper then rapes her, puts her in his trunk, and drives off. He takes her to his house where he holds her captive and ties her hands and feet together. While there, she is raped repeatedly and is assaulted. She can’t help but think of her husband and children. Eventually, she finds out that her husband has been murdered by her kidnapper and can’t help but think of getting back to her kids that need her. Five days later, she gets up the courage to escape the room she’s been held

The concept of vampires and ghosts can be found throughout the book The Scarlet Letter in the character Roger Chillingworth. It is hard to tell what his true intent is throughout the book, thus making him seem suspicious and somewhat evil.

In Running with Scissors: a memoir, Augusten Burroughs writes about his life from age 9 to 17 years old. In the beginning of the book Augusten describes the admiration of his mother, glorifying her to an unsettling extent. He explains that his enjoyment of opera music and formal wear can be credited to his mother. He expands on his enjoyment by including his fascination of shiny things by polishing. He gives insight of his parents, his mother being a poet who is adamant that she will someday be famous because of her poems and his father, a severe alcoholic.

Within the novel of "Far From You" written by Tess Sharpe, Sophie, the main character, is going under many changes in her life. From having her best friend being murdered in front of her, being blamed for her murder due to drugs being found in her jacket, and to being sent to rehab from being accused of relapsing. Sophie has many people pressuring her to be healthy and to have a good life since being released from rehab after three months. Two of those many people that want the best for Sophie is her aunt, Macy, and her mom, yet they approach the situation in two different ways.

In Peg Kehret’s book Stolen Children the story starts when Amy forgets to walk and feed the neighbor’s dog and it has an accident. The neighbor asked Amy’s father if she had remembered come over. Amy’s father decided to talk to Amy but the talk soon turned into a fight, causing Amy’s dad to be late for work. That was the last time Amy saw her dad because he died in a car crash on his way. Amy felt like it was her fault and wanted to prove to her dad that she could be responsible and started taking a babysitting class.
