INTRODUCTION: A Submarine is basically an autonomous vessel or a watercraft with large crew which does underwater operations. It is pretty different from a traditional submersible, which has very limited underwater capability. Generally, Small or medium sized underwater vessels and remotely operated bots are often referred to as Submarines. HISTORY: Submarine means “under the sea”. The word submarine is evolved from shortened form of submarine boat. Regardless to their immense size the submarines are usually referred to as “boats” rather than “ships” due to reasons of naval tradition. Design of submarine took off during the early 19th century which were adopted by many navies, but experimental submarines were widely built much before …show more content…
In earlier designs, a separate pressure hull known as the “conning tower” which is featured above the main body of boat that helps in the usage of smaller periscopes. In earlier designs, the submarine consists of an additional pressure hull known as the “cunning tower” which is featured above the main body which helpein usage of smaller periscopes. Submarine also contains various hydrodynamic control fins, ballast tanks and also a propeller or pump jet at the rear. Design of deep diving, smaller and specialty submarines differ from the traditional layout. There are widest range of capabilities and types of submarine than that of any vessel. From small autonomous robots and one or two person vessels that operate for few hours to vessels that can remain submerged for several months like the one with nuclear power. Submarines can work at greater depths which are not survivable for human divers. Modern deep diving submarines are derived from the bathyscaphe which in turn is evolved from the traditional diving

It was actually a wooden boat then the South turned it into a full on ironclad. This was a huge weakness because the ship could get hit by an underwater mine. Normally, if a wood boat gets hit by weaponry once it sinks. But, an ironclad could easily deflect any shot directed at it. The U.S.S Virginia also had a massive iron ram that was used to smash weak and old wood boats to shreds.
In Robert Kurson’s book, “Shadow Divers,” he reveals how a group of divers solve one of the last mysteries of World War II. Captain Bill Nagle owns the Seeker which is a charter boat that people can rent to take them to shipwrecks. Nagle is a world renowned deep sea shipwreck diver, because he pushes the limits on how far and where divers can go. Nagle has explored some of the most dangerous shipwrecks such as the Andrea Doria and Texas Tower. He has also retrieved various souvenirs from wrecks such as china dishes and the boat’s bell, but Nagle has massive respect for the history of sunken watercraft.
A boat that traveled underwater wouldve been ideal but there were alot of technological barriers. Bushnell eventually overcame the limited technoligy of his time and built a one person submarine.

Both empires were known for their technological advancements in the field of ship
