Imagine waking up in a dark, dingy room with no windows or doors. You have no idea where you are, or how you got there. Suddenly, the door opens and a stranger comes in, telling you that you've been sold into sex slavery. This is the reality for millions of children around the world who are victims of child sex trafficking. Child sex trafficking is a heinous crime that has plagued society for centuries. Despite efforts to combat it, the problem persists, with thousands of children falling prey to traffickers every year. The history of child sex trafficking is long and complicated. However, this argument couldn't be further from the truth. Children who are forced into sex slavery are often kidnapped or lured with false promises, and are then subjected to physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Others argue that the best way to combat child sex trafficking is to increase law enforcement efforts and impose harsher penalties on traffickers. While these measures are important, they only address the symptoms of the problem, rather than the root causes. In order to effectively combat child sex trafficking, we must address the underlying factors that contribute to the problem, including poverty, inequality, and lack of education. Krauss (2014) reports that Ohio is a major hub for interstate trafficking, making it a prime target for traffickers. This puts Ohio's children at risk of being trafficked and exploited. While Ohio has taken steps to combat child trafficking, it remains a persistent issue. The state needs to continue to focus on prevention, education, and prosecution to effectively address this problem and protect its most vulnerable citizens. Despite being a small state, Ohio has become a major hub for child trafficking and sex trafficking.
