Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013)
Murdering, hating, and deceiving millions of people— Hitler. Negotiating, calming and giving millions of people hope— Gandhi. Teaching, guiding and working with 15 girls— my softball coaches. Listening, caring and devotion to her three kids— my mother. Change; something that the world’s most influential leaders have in common with my everyday encounters. But what does change have to do with anything?
A leader is someone that is in charge of a group, organization, country, etc. A leader is also someone that perfects all the views of leadership, this is important because when a leader is facing a situation he or she will know how to handle it. Everyone has leadership qualities but it's how you use these qualities and traits that make you a good or bad leader. For instance, Oprah is viewed as a good leader because although she went through a lot of issues in her life she was able to use those trials as a way to inspire others. A bad leader is Rafael trujillo, Trujillo was the dictator of Dominican Republic and although he was determined and worked his way up to the top he used fear to stay in control.
Eleanor Roosevelt was a born leader. For more than 30 years, she was the most powerful woman in America. Niece of one president and wife of another, when her husband became president, she saw that as an opportunity to have her voice heard, and to pave a way for women in politics forever. Although Eleanor Roosevelt was considered a very outspoken and involved first lady she wasn't always this way, She grew up very sheltered and shy.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt. I thrive to follow in the footsteps of these phenomenal leaders and get closer to this goal everyday by practicing my leadership skills in my home, school, and community. Demonstrating leadership at home has proven to be life-changing, I’ve taken on the position of being a leader at home because I am the oldest child, therefore, I put the responsibility upon myself to teach my younger sisters the ropes of life, I also guide my parents to being healthier and better versions of themselves. My sisters look up to me as their role model and I live a life of example by exhibiting that self-respect, academic responsibility,
Women leadership has played a major role in anal of history. But more so, women leadership has also helped shaped the development of contemporary human civilization. One woman that left a footprint in women leadership role is Eleanor Roosevelt.
What makes a great leader? Two great leaders from this century were Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. despite their difference in gender and race and and not having political experiences. Martin Luther King Jr. was an “African-American, Baptist minister, who was born on January 15, 1968” (Contemporary). He led the civil rights movement. Eleanor Roosevelt, who was “born on October 11, 1884”, was an influential a First Lady (First Lady Biography). She was a great social reformer and she was well educated and came from a wealthy family. Both had successful leadership qualities: empathy, conceptualization, and ability to build community.
Central Theme: In chapters 4-7, the authors go into depth and explain what core the behaviors of a 10X leader mean and how they are all connected. In order to become a 10X leader, a person must have a fanatic discipline that requires of a specific, methodical, and consistent plan of action, an empirical creativity that consists of firing bullets and calibrating for cannonballs, and a productive paranoia that roots from consciousness of danger and vigilance of possible disruptions. The most important factor that creates a flow of all three behaviors is momentum. In other words, a 10X leader creates a specific plan to follow, and they make sure everyone is moving at the same pace towards the ultimate goal. They create tests samples to insure
“The First Lady of the World” is a fitting title for one of the greatest diplomats in history. Eleanor Roosevelt was a strong individual who changed history for the better. Who she became took years to form. She wasn’t content to stay behind her husband while he ran the country as president. Her diplomatic skills influenced the world. I believe that she was, and still is, a role model for many women following her.
Whether people want or not, a leader/leaders are necessary to a society. Throughout history and around the world, there have been a number of leaders. When looking back on history, some are successful and others are total failure. However, it is not easy to divide leaders into good ones and bad ones. The judgement on leaders differ depending on from whom perspective we see the leader. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, there are two totally different types of leaders, Snowball and Napoleon. In the end, Napoleon, rather than Snowball, is thought as a leader. Although Napoleon is drawn as a self-centred, tyrannical leader, he is an effective one and has a great impact on animals.
At the present competitive world leadership is a dynamic process where influencing others is the most important issues. That’s why exercising power is one of the most important issue to be a charismatic leader and this power doesn’t come automatically it comes after advocating other fellow members. Here, one thing is most important to remind that the power should be imposed and exercise within the worth and boundaries of the leaders. However organization’s culture, its mission, vision, short-term strategies all these reform the leadership process.
